    Tony Yelovich Receives Award For National Girls And Women In Sports Day

    NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Tony Yelovich, assistant athletics director for Olympic sports game management at the University of Notre Dame, was the surprise recipient on Monday night (Jan. 23) of an award in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day that was presented on behalf of Notre Dame and the BIG EAST Conference.

    The accolade, which was presented during halftime of the Notre Dame-Tennessee women's basketball game and is awarded in an effort to acknowledge the contributions towards and support of girls' and women's athletics. The Irish women's soccer team and coaches joined Yelovich for the midcourt presentation as he serves as sport administrator for that program.

    A member of the Notre Dame community for more than 25 years, he served on the Irish football staff before moving into his current administrative position in the fall of 1994. In his position, Yelovich works with every women's sport at Notre Dame and sees that all their needs for home competitions are met. He also can be found at nearly every athletic contest that takes place at the University.

    During his tenure, Yelovich as served as sport administrator for several other female sport programs and is admired for the unparalleled relationships and bonds he forms with the student-athletes that he forms with the student-athletes he impacts each and every day. Over the course of a student-athlete's four years, he is a constant bright sport in their lives and is one of the first individuals former athletes come to visit upon their return to campus.

    Yelovich, a native of Paoli, Pa., was awarded an honorary monogram by the Notre Dame Monogram Club in June of 2001. He also received the Presidential Values Award from the University in May 2011, one of the highest recognitions that can be bestowed upon a Notre Dame employee. Yelovich will retire from the University and his current position on March 31, 2012.

    He and his wife, Jean, are parents of two daughters, both Notre Dame graduates: Jody and Jill.
