FB: Appreciation Party on the Patio

The Notre Dame football program took time on Wednesday, April 18, to thank several women who have assisted the team throughout the past year.

Missy Conboy, a 23-year veteran of the Notre Dame athletic department staff, was promoted to senior deputy director of athletics in August 2009 after serving as deputy athletics director since 2004. Conboy previously was appointed senior associate athletics director in August 2002 following 11 years as associate athletic director and five years as assistant athletic director. She also served as the University's interim director of athletics from June-July 2008 following the departure of Kevin White to Duke University.

As senior deputy director, Conboy oversees the internal aspects of the department, those that impact both the university constituent groups and the student-athletes. Among the areas reporting to Conboy are facilities (including the master plan for athletic facilities), human resources, student welfare and development, game management, RecSports, and the sport performance division.

A 1982 graduate of the University, she is the liaison both to the Athletic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Faculty Board on Athletics.

Conboy is currently the sport administrator for the volleyball program. During her tenure at Notre Dame, she also has overseen business affairs, NCAA Compliance and Legal Affairs for the athletic department. She was a member of the NCAA's Legislative Review Committee, serving as chair for her final two years. Conboy also served as a four-year member of the NCAA Interpretations Committee, and presently is a member of the NCAA Committee on Infractions. She is also a member of the executive board of NACDA.

Conboy was a six-year member of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Committee and was instrumental in bringing both the 1994 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships and 1998 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships to the Notre Dame campus. She has served as a member of the BIG EAST Academic Honors Committee and the BIG EAST Finance Committee, and currently serves on both the BIG EAST Volleyball Committee and the BIG EAST Executive Committee. Conboy also is the former chair of the BIG EAST Senior Women Administrators' Committee. The Big East SWA group oversees competitive and championship issues for all conference sports.

Conboy joined the NCAA staff in 1985 as an enforcement representative. In that capacity, she spent two years investigating infraction reports and helped process cases for the NCAA Committee on Infractions. She joined the Notre Dame staff in August 1987.

Born April 19, 1960, and a native of Buffalo, N.Y., Conboy was a four-year member of the Notre Dame women's basketball team from 1978-82, serving as team captain her senior year.

Conboy graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in English and received her juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1985.

She was married in July 1991 to William Mountford, a graduate of Notre Dame's MBA program and the U.S. Naval Academy, and the couple has three daughters: Darby, Delaney and Killian Rose Mountford.
