Alan George joined the Notre Dame athletic media relations staff as an intern in 2007 and was promoted to assistant director in 2008. In addition to serving as Notre Dame's primary volleyball contact, he also handles media responsibilities for the men's and women's swimming & diving and softball teams.
Through four seasons at Notre Dame, George has promoted 11 All-Americans, worked with nine BIG EAST Conference championship teams and earned several regional and national citations for his publications from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Most recently, the 2009-10 Notre Dame women's swimming and diving media guide was voted second nationally, finishing only behind his men's swimming and diving publication in that category. He was also the AVCA Grand Burger Media Award winner for the Northeast Region for his promotion of the nationally ranked Irish volleyball squad following the 2009 season.
During his two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky University, George worked closely with the Hilltoppers' swimming and softball programs and coordinated the media efforts for the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championships.
George played football at Centre College and was president of his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon, before graduating in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He went on to work as an operations intern for the Class-A South Atlantic League's Lexington Legends (affiliate of Major League Baseball's Houston Astros) prior to earning his master's degree in sport administration from WKU in 2007.
George is an active basketball referee and baseball umpire, officiating both sports at the youth, prep and collegiate levels. He umpired the final game of the 2007 Little League World Series Regional in Indianapolis. He is a member of CoSIDA and part of the organization's New Media/Technology Committee.
Born January 19, 1983, in Lebanon, Ky., George now lives in South Bend.
