Kayla Matrunick is in her first year as Notre Dame's Sports Nutrition Program Director, having assumed her current post on March 1, 2013. In that role, she oversees and coordinates dietary needs for all 26 Fighting Irish varsity sports programs.
Matrunick joined the Notre Dame Sports Performance team in January 2011 as a registered dietitian. She comes from an athletic background where she competed in track and field and cross country at Penn State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in nutrition. Matrunick continued her passion for athletics at the University of Tennessee where she served as a volunteer coach for the track and field team (working with distance runners) while earning her master's degree in sports psychology.
Driven to succeed in both coaching and nutrition, Matrunick completed her Level I Track and Field Coaching Certification and completed her clinical internship at the Mayo Clinic.
Over the past few years she has continued to meld the triad; nutrition, sport, and psychology in helping her athletes achieve optimal performance. She feels blessed to be at such a prestigious university and excited to share her passion with the many talents of the Fighting Irish army!
