Kathy Speybroeck is in her 19th year as a member of the Notre Dame athletics department staff, her 14th on the athletics equipment staff, and seventh in her current position as the head equipment manager for the University's 22 varsity sports other than football and ice hockey.
Speybroeck began her tenure at Notre Dame as an assistant softball coach during the program's formative years from 1992-97. She then moved to the administrative side of the department as an assistant equipment manager from 1997-2003 before elevating to her current role. Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Speybroeck served as the head softball coach at South Bend St. Joseph's High School in 1991-92 and led them to a sectional title that season.
A four-year softball letterwinner at Indiana from 1978-82, Speybroeck earned her bachelor of science degree in Recreation - Programming and Leadership. She also spent the 1977 season as a member of the IU junior varsity women's basketball team.
A native of Scranton, Pa., Speybroeck and her husband, Joe, make their home in South Bend.
