For the 17th consecutive season, the Notre Dame women's soccer team (17-3-1) has earned a berth in the NCAA Championship. The recently-crowned BIG EAST Conference champion Fighting Irish -- ranked fourth in the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) poll and fifth by Soccer America -- parlayed the league's automatic bid to the tournament into the No. 2 seed in the Florida State Region, with Notre Dame beginning its journey towards the program's third NCAA title on Friday night, Nov. 13, at Alumni Stadium, when it plays host to Summit League champion IUPUI at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Saturday will mark the 65th meeting between Notre Dame andPittsburgh, with the Irish holding a 44-19-1 series lead. The teamsfirst played in 1909, '11 and '12 (all at Pittsburgh's legendary ForbesField), with Notre Dame blanking Pittsburgh in all three contests.The series resumed from 1930-37 before taking a five-year break. Itpicked up again from 1943-54, took '55 off, and then played everyyear in a 23-season stretch (1956-78) before taking a four-yearhiatus. They met in 1982 and '83, 1986-92, '96, '97, '99, 2001-05and '08 (more on the series history on pages 27-31).

Junior swimmer Katie Casey is expected to make major contributions to the Irish squad this year. Casey is a nine-time All-American, earning the nod three times for the 200 fly, two times in the 500 free and once each in the 100 fly, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay. In 2009 she took the BIG EAST Conference title in the 200 fly.

Irish senior forward Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) has been tabbed as one of 60 men's and women's basketball candidates (30 men, 30 women) for the 2009-10 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athletes must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence -- classroom, character, community and competition. This marks the ninth year that the award has been presented in basketball.

For the first 40 minutes of Saturday night's game at the Carlson Center, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish controlled play against Alaska, out shooting the Nanooks by a 20-13 edge. The final 20 minutes were another matter as Alaska scored three times to wipe out a 1-0 Notre Dame lead to give the Nanooks a 3-1 win over the Irish.
