Kansas State senior Yana Dorodnova was one of 11 unseeded players to reach the round of 16 and one of four non-seeds to advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals. Dorodnova beat Northwestern's Katherine Nasser (2-6, 6-0, 6-4) and Wisconsin's Barbara Urbanska (6-3, 6-3) in Tuesday's action.

Florida junior Stephanie Nickitas nearly upset #1 seed Mirela Vladulescu of Alabama-Birmingham, dropping a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 match after serving for the win in the third set (5-4) and owning one match point (Vladulescu fought off four match points in the first round.

Duke's Vanessa Webb (left) and Karen Rothstein lived up to their #2 seeding with a 7-5, 6-3 win over UAB's Mirela Vladulescu and Paula Briggs. Webb was one of nine players to log three matches Tuesday and one of four who won two singles matches and the ensuing doubles action.

VCU's Martina Nedalkova had a busy day, beating Mississippi's seeded player Agnes Muzamel (7-5, 2-6, 7-5) and losing to Cal's Amanda Augustus (6-4, 6-3) before losing with teammate Andrea Ondrisova to the #4-seeded doubles team--Stanford's Julie Scott and Anie Bleszynski (6-4, 7-6/8-6).

Miami's Liodmila Skavronskaia won the first set from Washington's Kristina Kraszewski, who then won by the same score in the second and third sets. Kraszewski also pulled out a comeback win earlier in the day over William & Mary's Michelle O (3-6, 6-2, 6-4).

The Irish rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win and will face the #2 seed--Duke's Vanessa Webb and Karen Rothstein--in Wednesday's quarterfinals.

Florida junior Stephanie Nickitas (in white cap) played 53 games (plus a tiebreaker) over two singles matches Tuesday before teaming with senior Dawn Buth to quickly beat Tennessee's Manisha Malhotra and Margie Lepsi (6-0, 6-3). Nickitas and Buth are the two-time defending NCAA doubles champions.
