Doubles Championship Quotes - May 29
Amanda Augustus and Amy Jensen (California) 7-5, 6-3 winner over Dawn Buth and Stephanie Nickitas (Florida) (1 seed):
Amanda Augustus
"The main factor we were thinking about was that we had never played them before. We had heard from other people, talked to the Stanford girls about how they played, but we really didn't know what to expect from them. We just tried to be really aggressive and tried to take the net away."
On the intimidation of playing two-time defending champion Florida: "I think we really tried not to think about that. We really wanted to focus on our own game and just focus on specific things that we wanted to do in the match to be able to play our style of doubles. We didn't want to think too much about what they were doing."
Amy Jensen
On playing with so much confidence: "We kind of had to play our way into the tournament. We know that once we both are intense and really into the match that we can do just about anything. We both knew coming into the tournament that if we got to that place where we were playing our best tennis that we would have just as good a shot as anyone."
Dawn Buth and Stephanie Nickitas (Florida) (1 seed) 5-7, 3-6, loser to Amamda Augustus and Amy Jensen (California):
Dawn Buth
"We have definetly had a long nine days during this tournament. We did not play as good as we should have in order to win the match. I came out a little flat today and never really got into a groove I needed to be in to win."
On the way California played: "They played really well today, and they did a lot of things that we did not do. Amy Jensen puts a lot of spin on the ball when she hits it, so there were balls flying everywhere becuase of her spin was uncontrolable. We prety much defeated ourselves today, because we made a lot of unforced errors that really hurt us."
Stephanie Nickitas
On the Florida roll: "I just felt like things never really got rolling out there like they have in the past. There were only a few games wherte we came back like we are used to doing. It was real frustrating today because nothing really got rolling the way we would have liked them to. For some reason today things just would not go our way. "
