Postmatch Quotes
Wake Forest head coach Lew Gerrard
On the match:
"I think we surprised a lot of people on
how close the matches were. Almost everyone went into three sets,
which gave me and our team some confidence. I thought our team
was extremely competitive today. I couldn't be any prouder of the
way my team played today. This definitely is a step forward in
our program."
On Stanford:
"They're good, I think they have a great
shot at the title. Their players are well coached and well
condition. I have to give credit to coach Brennan and the job he
has done at Stanford."
Stanford head coach Frank Brennan
On today's match:
"I thought today was a good gut check
going into the weekend. Every match was close and I think that
will prepare us well going into tomorrow's contest with Duke."
On his Stanford team:
"I was happy to see us get some
doubles action in today. I wanted them to get some quality
playing time in before the semifinals. I'm not too worried that
Julie Scott lost. She's a senior and I think she'll rebound from
this. It all worked out for us today and we got some doubles
action in which helps us tremendously."
On the rematch with Duke:
"I don't know what our record
is with Duke, but I know that we have a good record against them.
The matches are all tight, I don't think that the players will
remember from year's past with Duke. Duke's a good team, a
confident team that will give their best shot at us."
Stanford player Ania Bleszynski
On her performance today:
"I felt I played a better game
today. Every part of my game was on and I felt I could win almost
every point. Even though the weather was a little windy, I
adjusted well to it."
On playing Duke:
"This is match that I'm really looking
forward to. In the indoor match with them this year I got sick
and I lost in three sets. This time I'm feeling well and really
want to play well against them. I'm going out there to play every
point as if it is my last."
