Notre Dame's Fencing Squads Go Undefeated at Cleveland State
CLEVELAND -- The Notre Dame fencing teams faced six
teams at the Cleveland State Meet. Both the men and the women's squads
garnered victories against Wayne State, Case Western Reserve, Cleveland
State, Michigan State, Detroit and Michigan. In defeating their six
opponents the women's foil and epee teams won 172 bouts while losing
only 20. The men's team fenced equally well and with their victory over
Wayne State they were able to avenge one of their three losses from the
1996 season.
With the victories, the women's team improves to 21-1 on the season
while the men climb to 16-2. The Notre Dame fencing teams will be in
action next week as they head to Durham, N.C., for a meet at Duke, Feb.
