AS A JUNIOR: Combined with seniors Andrzej Bednarski and Andre Crompton for potent sabre threesome (404 combined regular-season wins) … continued steady progress before edging Bednarski for Notre Dame’s second sabre NCAA spot … posted 39-8 regular-season record (.830) … went 9-3 at NYU Duals, including 2-1 record (5-4 win over Darrin Whitmer) in win over St. John’s … added 15-1 record at Air Force Duals and 8-4 at Ohio State Duals (5-4 win over OSU’s Colin Parker) … went 7-0 at Wayne State Duals and helped Irish win Midwest Fencing Conference title (5-3 vs. Ohio State in sabre title matchup) … posted first career win over Wayne State’s Jakub Krochmalski (5-4), in MFC semifinals … did not fence in MFC individual competition … matched his seed with fifth-place finish at Midwest Regional before earning at-large NCAA berth (he placed 14th with a 9-14 record, at Drew University) … runner-up at Penn State Open in fall of 2001, behind PSU’s Alex Weber, before finishing 16th at North American Cup in Palm Springs.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Posted 40-5 record on sabre squad that won nearly 90 percent of its bouts (146-17, .885) ... went 9-0 at NYU Duals, 7-0 at Northwestern Duals and 23-1 at Notre Dame Invitational (loss to WSU’s Krochmalski) ... his other losses came at the Duke Duals, vs. fencers from Stanford, Duke and Ohio State (2) ... went 4-2 at MFC Team Championships, with 5-1 win over WSU’s Jon Ferris in title matchup (did not compete as an individual) ... finished fifth at Midwest Regional (No. 3 seed) ... placed seventh at Penn State Open in fall of 2000.
AS A FRESHMAN: Compiled 23-4 record, with semifinal finish at MFCs ... opened career by placing fifth at Penn State Open (fall ‘99) ... totaled 11 wins at Chicago Open.
