@NDFencing

Fourth-year epeeist who steadily has progressed while showing the ability to adapt to different bouting situations ... compensates for his smaller stature by shifting his tactics during bouts ... a risk-taker who can be effective with the fleche attack (when the main force comes from a push off the front leg, often ending in a running attack) ... has competed in several recent USFA events, including the 2004 Junior Olympics, the 2004 North American Cup event in Richmond, Va., and the Overland Park N.A.C. in January of '05.

WITH THE IRISH: Won nearly 85 percent of his regualr-season bouts during his first three seasons (73-13) ... his 40-8 record as a junior included 5-1 at the Northwestern Duals, 0-2 at NYU Duals, 14-1 at ND Duals, 12-1 at Ohio State Duals and 9-3 at UCSD Duals ... placed 11th at the 2006 Midwest Fencing Conference meet, losing in the round-of-16 to teammate Greg Howard (2-15) ... went 20-3 as a sophomore before reaching the finals of the MFCs, after defeating Wayne State's Wojciech Dudek (the '03 MFC champ) in the semifinals (15-11) ... lost to teammate Michal Sobieraj in the 2003 MFC title bout (9-15) ... earlier had placed 12th at the Northwestern Open and 26th at the Penn State Open (both in the fall of '04) ... his freshman season included a 13-2 regular season, finishing second at the 2004 Culver Cup and placing 12th at the MFCs (also reached round-of-16 in the PSU Open, held during the fall of '03).

PREP & PERSONAL: Homeschooled during his high-school years in Dulles, Va. ... his father is a diplomat who has worked in various countries during his career ... son of Samuel and Elizabeth Laeuchli ... full name is Jesse Harrison Laeuchli ... born Aug. 1, 1984, in China ... a mathematics major, in the College of Arts and Letters.
