    AS A SOPHOMORE: Had best season of any Irish men's epeeist, finishing second at NCAA Championship and earning first team All-America recognition ... finished the year 39-17, improving career record to 64-25 ... got off to fantastic start in second season with the Irish, posting 15-3 mark at NYU Invitational ... etched 2-1 record against Yale, recovering from close 4-3 loss against Peter Cohen and out-dueling the Bulldogs' Ben Mappin-Kasirer, 5-1, and Cornelius Saunders, 5-0 ... versus Columbia also posted 2-1 mark, losing first bout to Justin Wan, 5-4 ... re-grouped and defeated both Jake Hoyle and Andrei Tapai, 5-2 ... having gained his stride, went undefeated in three consecutive match-ups with North Carolina, St. John's and host NYU ... earned 9-6 record at St. John's Invite ... facing off against Penn State, out-touched Jeffrey Miller 5-2 and Oskar Tang 5-0 before suffering 5-4 setback against Connor Shepard ... logged 2-1 bout record against Harvard, beating Nicolas Simko 5-2 and Alexander Eldieb in a close, 5-4 duel ... remained undefeated against host St. John's, besting Trevor Shepard 5-3, Cooper Schumacher 5-1 and Yevgeniy Karyuchenko 5-4 ... against Columbia, won 5-2 against Brian Ro before suffering two losses versus Justin Wan (5-4) and Jake Hoyle (5-3) ... posted 11-5 record at Northwestern Duals ... won two bouts against Pennsylvania, losing last bout of the match against Ayyub Ibrahim in close, 5-4 fashion ... logged identical 2-1 mark against Princeton foes before posting 1-1 record against North Carolina opponents ... fought to 2-1 finish against Stanford and Duke ... earned impressive overtime win against Cardinal combatant Ben Riviere, 5-4 ... notably blanked Duke's Dylan Nollner 5-0 ... battled back and forth with Duke's Allessio Santoro, losing 5-4 to the Duke dualist ... notched 3-0 mark against Lawrence and Cal Tech and 2-0 mark against UC-San Diego to finish the day on eight-bout win streak ... at DeCicco Duals, won four of seven bouts ... bested Cleveland State's Salih Yasun (5-2) and Northwestern's Alistair Murray (5-2) ... notched a pair of 5-2 wins against Penn State's Jeffrey Miller and Connor Shepard ... at NCAA Midwest Regional, finished third behind Ohio State's Kristian Boyadzhiev and Marco de Guzman ... at NCAA Championships, finished first day with 8-7 mark after being undefeated in second round of pool play ... increased from eighth place to fourth place heading into semifinals on second day ... ousted Duke's Santoro 13-9 in semifinal bout ... quickly scored touches against St. John's Karyuchenko, 2-0, only for Karyuchenko to counter and tie the bout ... advanced, 12-10 heading into final round of the bout but faltered and lost to a torso touch, 15-13 ... earned a monogram.

    AS A FRESHMAN: Ended his first season with the Irish with a 25-8 record and a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in addition to being named Midwest Fencing Conference (MFC) Champion in men's epee ... earned first-team all-MFC honors with a 13-4 win over Kristian Boyadzhiev of Ohio State ... notched a 12-3 mark at the St. John's Invitational, second-best individual epee record for the tournament ... went 3-4 the next day at the NYU Invitational and finished the regular season 10-1 at the Notre Dame Duals ... his only loss at the Castellan Family Fencing Center came in the last bout of the day to Air Force's James Salem, who won by one touch with a 3-2 score as time expired ... making his Irish debut in Carnesecca Arena, defeated Buckeye epeeists Boyadzhiev, Daniel Tafoya and Narayan Pathi with scores of 5-4, 5-1 and 5-3 respectively, then went on to post another 3-0 record against Penn State ... continued his perfect score with a 3-0 mark against Harvard, defeating eventual NCAA third-place finisher Peregrine Badger five touches to three before out-dueling Badger's Crimson teammates Ben White and Mike Raynis 5-3 and 3-2 ...narrowly beat Raynis with overtime priority ... finished the day in Jamaica, N.Y. with a 2-1 mark against host St. John's and a 1-2 record versus Columbia ... at MFC Championships, entered direct elimination with the No. 10 seed ... advanced into the round of eight with wins against Iowa's Lance Hanson, Wayne State's Darrin Winston, and familiar Buckeye foe Pathi ... continued into the finals with a 6-6 priority win against eventual NCAA Champion Marco Canevari and by downing Irish teammate Michael Rossi 15-14 ... in NCAA Midwest Regional competition, narrowly qualified for the trip to San Antonio over senior James Kaull with a +23 indicator, one more than Kaull's +22 ... down in San Antonio, finished round-robin play with a 12-11 record, just shy of honorable mention All-American status.

    PREP & PERSONAL: Graduated from Sequoia Choice High School, and competed with the Arizona Fencing Academy club team ... was the overall epee champion at the 2012 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships ... earned a sixth-place finish in the 2012 Division I National Championships ... claimed third place at the Gothensborg Cadet European Epee Cup ... secured the final touch in gold medal team bout against France at the 2011 Challans France Cadet Epee ... born Matthew Garrett McGrath ... son of Michael and Deroda McGrath ... has one brother, Keegan ... is currently majoring in computer science at the University.
