    Gerek Meinhardt: A Transformative Athlete for the Ages

    Notre Dame's two-time NCAA foil champion and two-time Olympian has left a profound impact on American fencing, at three fundamental levels.

    Competed for the U.S. at both the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona in women's foil ... became the first Notre Dame woman to compete in the Olympics with her spot in the '88 Games ... won the 1985 National Women's Foil Championship as well as winning the '85 National U-19 Championship ... also claimed two team gold medals with the U.S. at the Pan American Games ... became the first female fencer in Irish program history to win multiple NCAA gold medals (1986 and 1988) and was named the Notre Dame Athlete of the Decade as a result.
