Third Ranked Irish Fencers Continue Winning Ways
WALTHAM, Mass.- The Notre Dame men's and women's fencing team took their number-three rankings and undefeated record to Brandeis where they faced Boston College, Duke, Massasschusetts Instute of Technology (MIT), New York University (NYU) and North Carolina. Both Irish men's and women's teams defeated the schools they competed against and improved their records to 16-0 and 15-0 respectively.
The captains of the men's squad spear-headed the Irish attack. Epee captain Brian Stone posted a 10-2 mark and foil captain Stephane Auriol went 12-2 on the day. Sabre captain and two-time All-American Luke LaValle remained unbeaten on the season by winning all 12 of his bouts. Sophomore foilist Charles Hayes posted an undefeated day by finishing 11-0.
The women's team was paced by solid showings from their captains. Epee captain Anne Hoos recorded an 18-1 mark. Foil captain Myriah Brown registered 16 victories with no losses. Epeeists Magda Krol and Nicole Mustilli helped the Irish gain victory. Krol had 18 wins and two losses and Mustilli recorded 17 victories and one loss. Foilist Sara Walsh had the most victories of the day as she posted a 19-1 mark.
