Fencer Gabor Szelle Shines at International Competition

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame freshman sabreman Gabor Szelle (Budapest, Hungary) finished second at the Junior World Cup Championships held in Budapest, Hungary on January 9-10. Szelle finished behind Dennis Bauer of Germany at the event.

Szelle, a member of the Hungarian national team, heads to Goeppingen, Germany for another Junior World Cup event held on January 16-17. Szelle's Hungarian squad won the Junior European Championships earlier in the season.

Szelle is currently ranked eighth in the world among junior sabremen. In his first collegiate season Szelle will join Notre Dame senior and 1998 NCAA sabre champion Luke LaValle (New York, New York) to give the Irish one of the best sabre squads in school history.
