Swimming & Diving NCAA Pump Up Video

The Notre Dame swimming and diving team is pumped up for the NCAA Championships.

AS A SENIOR (2017-18):

    •    Served as a team captain of the 2017-18 Notre Dame squad.

    •    Winner of the Patrick Reilly McManus Award, presented to the Irish swimming and diving athlete who performs well both in and out of the pool in pressure situations and best exemplifies the term teammate.

    •    Completed a career triple with a third straight nod on the ACC All-Academic Team.

    •    Established program records in the 100 backstroke (:46.39) and the 200 backstroke (1:40.17), and swam the second-fastest 200 IM (1:44.06) in Notre Dame history.

    •    Claimed Honorable Mention All-America recognition after leading off for the 200 medley relay entry that placed 15th at the NCAA Championships.

    •    Placed 17th individually in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:40.29 and 28th in the 200 IM after touching the wall in 1:44.26.

    •    Established Irish record in the 200 backstroke to place second in the event final at the ACC Championships.

    •    Added a fourth-place result in the 200 IM at ACCs in 1:44.06.

    •    Doubled as a winner in the 200 backstroke (1:42.90) and the 200 IM (1:48.90), and was event runner-up in the 100 backstroke (:48.83) during the Shamrock Invitational.

    •    In crucial dual victory over No. 20 Florida State, won the 100 backstroke (:48.65), 200 backstroke (1:45.87) and 200 IM (1:49.97) heats to guide the Irish past the Seminoles.

    •    Took two wins in the 100 backstroke (:48.82) and the 200 backstroke (1:45.93) in a dual triumph of Iowa.

    •    Scored a pair of results in the top five at the Ohio State Fall Open Invitational (100 backstroke, :46.94, fourth – 200 backstroke, 1:41.40, third).

    •    Double-winner in the backstroke with a 100 time of :48.77 and a 200 time of 1:46.92 in a team dual victory against No. 23 Purdue.

    •    Earned crucial event wins for Notre Dame in the 100 backstroke (:48.27) and the 200 backstroke (1:45.58) in a dual upset of No. 7 Louisville.


AS A JUNIOR (2016-17):

    •    Repeated as a selection on the ACC All-Academic Team.

    •    Made first career NCAA Championships appearance, competing individually in the 100 (28th) and 200 (20th) backstroke and the 200 medley relay (24th) events.

    •    Finished fifth in the 200 backstroke (1:40.60) and seventh in the 100 backstroke (:46.53) at the ACC Championships.

    •    Led off the winning Notre Dame 200 medley relay (:22.52 50 backstroke) and the 400 medley relay (:47.74 100 backstroke) during the Shamrock Invitational, adding runner-up results in the 100 (:48.86) and 200 (1:45.71) backstroke individually.

    •    Runner-up in the 100 backstroke (:49.04) and the 200 backstroke (1:45.90) during a dual meet at Louisville.

    •    Swept both backstroke distances with a winning 100 time of :49.24 and a victorious 200 readout of 1:47.28 in a dual triumph at Northwestern.

    •    Claimed victories across the 100 backstroke (:48.72), the 200 backstroke (1:46.27) and the 200 IM (1:51.62) in a victory against Iowa.

    •    Prevailed in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:45.28 in a tri-dual against Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.

    •    Outpointed the field in both the 100 backstroke (:49.26) and the 200 backstroke (1:47.29) to defeat Purdue.

    •    Earned the event win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.72 over Georgia Tech.

    •    Swept a pair of event wins over Oakland, taking the victory in the 100 backstroke (:49.12) and the 200 backstroke (1:46.48).


AS A SOPHOMORE (2015-16):

    •    Represented Notre Dame for the first time on the ACC All-Academic Team.

    •    Became elite backstroker in second season, competing at ACC Championship for second consecutive year.

    •    At ACCs, advanced to A final in 200 backstroke, placing sixth overall (1:42.21 finals, 1:42.17 prelims).

    •    Also finished 15th in 100 backstroke (:47.78 finals, :47.82 prelims) and 22nd in 200 IM (1:47.59 finals, 1:47.35 prelims).

    •    Finished the year at Ohio State Last Chance meet, swimming 200 backstroke (1:42.34 prelims, 1:43.58 finals).

    •    Began the season at Dennis Stark Relays, winning 400 IM relay (:51.68 split) and taking sixth in 200 medley relay (:23.83 leadoff).

    •    Versus Michigan State, won 200 backstroke (1:51.38), came in second in 400 medley relay (:50.48 leadoff) and third in 200 freestyle relay (:21.00 split).

    •    At Virginia Tech, continued winning ways in the 200 backstroke (1:48.04) and placed second with 400 medley relay (:50.09 leadoff) and in 100 backstroke (:50.21).

    •    Came in fourth in 200 freestyle relay (:20.93 split) and 400 freestyle relay (:47.15 split) in addition to finishing fifth in the 200 medley relay (:23.57 leadoff split) and sixth in the 800 freestyle relay (1:43.36 split).

    •    At Purdue Invitational, raced to second in the 200 backstroke (1:46.30 finals, 1:48.72 prelims) and third in the 100 (:49.23 finals, :49.92 prelims), finishing 17th in the 200 IM (1:50.14 finals, 1:52.88 prelims).

    •    Helped 400 freestyle relay take ninth (:45.92 split) and swam with 200 medley relay team that finished 12th (:23.24 leadoff) and 400 medley relay that touched ninth (:49.47 leadoff).

    •    Also clocked in at :21.92 in 50 freestyle.

    •    At Virginia, finished fifth in 200 IM (1:53.31) and second in 200 backstroke (1:48.35) and 100 backstroke (:48.84).

    •    Swam with 200 medley relay (:23.30 leadoff) and 400 freestyle relay (:46.24 split) that came in third and 400 medley relay (:50.59 leadoff) that finished fourth.

    •    Against Northwestern, won 200 backstroke (1:48.30) and came in second in 200 medley relay (:23.58 leadoff split).

    •    Placed third in 100 backstroke (:49.94) and fourth in 200 IM (1:54.75).

    •    Earned pair of fourth-place finishes at Shamrock Invitational in the 100 backstroke (:49.70) and 200 backstroke (1:49.41) in addition to touching in fifth with the 400 medley relay (:50.62 leadoff) and sixth in the 200 medley relay (:23.69 leadoff) as well as seventh in the 200 IM (1:52.35).


AS A FRESHMAN (2014-15):

    •    Had impressive first season with the Irish, competing as one of three freshmen at ACC Championship meet.

    •    Finished 19th in 100 backstroke with a time of :48.42 (:48.13 prelims) and 10th in 200 backstroke (1:43.87 finals, 1:44.45 prelims).

    •    Began the season at home against Purdue, swimming lead leg of 200 medley relay (:23.49 split) and finishing third in 100 backstroke (:50.60).

    •    Went on to finish third against Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech in 200 backstroke (1:49.91) and seventh in 100 backstroke (:51.34).

    •    Also swam lead leg with ‘A’ team in 200 medley relay, clinching first (:23.67 split, 1:30.68) and leading the ‘B’ team in 400 medley relay to third (:50.80 split, 3:23.53).

    •    At Michigan State, led ‘B’ team in 200 medley relay to third place (:24.09 split, 1:32.97) and took third in 100 backstroke (:51.68) and 200 backstroke (1:51.86).

    •    In Hawkeye Invitational, finished 14th in 200 IM (1:52.23) after swimming a 1:51.78 showing in the morning prelims.

    •    Led ‘B’ team in 400 medley relay to fourth place (:49.66 split, 3:18.94) and the ‘A’ team to second in 200 medley relay (:23.11 split, 1:28.73) before touching the wall sixth in 100 backstroke (:49.25 finals, :48.99 prelims) and fifth in 200 backstroke (1:46.01 finals, 1:45.52 prelims).

    •    Anchored the ‘B’ team to fourth place in 400 freestyle relay (:45.23 split, 3:02.91).

    •    At Michigan against the Wolverines and Northwestern, led ‘B’ team in 200 medley relay to seventh place (:24.40 split, 1:33.88) and clocked a :53.77 time in 100 backstroke.

    •    At Wisconsin, led ‘B’ team in 200 medley relay with :24.59 split (1:35.29 overall), touched the wall eighth in 100 backstroke (:52.01) and anchored ‘B’ team in 200 freestyle relay to seventh (:21.75 split, 1:27.37).

    •    Finished the met in eighth place in 200 backstroke (1:53.20) and leading ‘B’ team in 400 medley relay (:51.93 split, 3:28.26).

    •    In Shamrock Invitational, swam third leg of 200 freestyle relay with ‘B’ team (:21.28 split, 1:24.20).

    •    Touched the wall in 1:55.06 in 200 IM and finished sixth in 100 backstroke (:50.76) and 200 backstroke (1:51.83).

    •    Led the ‘B’ team in both 400 medley relay (:51.26 split, 3:26.50) and 200 medley relay (:23.88 split, 1:32.83) to eighth and seventh place respectively.

    •    Against Cleveland State, led ‘B’ team of 200 medley relay to second (:23.85 split, 1:33.78) and won the 100 backstroke (:50.76), taking third in the 100 butterfly (:52.08) and fourth in 200 IM (1:58.65).


PREP & PERSONAL:

    •    Swam the 100 backstroke and 200 IM with Central Jersey Aquatic Club and prep team.

    •    Prep team was undefeated at state championship meet all four years.

    •    Achieved all-state accolades junior and senior year.

    •    Earned four varsity letters.

    •    Graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in May 2014.

    •    Son of Robert and Lisa Whitacre.

    •    Has three sisters, Emilie, Hilary and Julia.

    •    Emilie competed with the Rutgers crew team, while Hilary ran cross country and track at The College of New Jersey.

    •    Hails from Oceanport, New Jersey.

    •    Graduated from the Mendoza College of Business with a degree in management consulting.
