The Irish Track & Field team hosted the Meyo Invitational this weekend in the Loftus Sports Center.
AS A JUNIOR: Competed in 15 meets on the year ... ran with the 4x400m relay team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... helped team qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA East Preliminary Round by running a school-record time of 3:06.20 to finish ninth overall ... teamed with Patrick Feeney, Mitch Lorenz and Chris Giesting ... helped his 4x400m relay teammates to five first-place finishes ... earned all-conference honors at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships after helping 4x400m relay team finish second (3:11.33) ... recorded a personal best in the 400m by finishing eighth in the preliminaries at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships (47.75) ... started out the indoor season with a first-place finish at the Notre Dame Blue & Gold Invitational in the 4x400m relay (3:18.36) and a third-place finish in the 400m (48.46) ... earned a track and field monogram.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Ran as a member of the sprints unit ... earned a monogram ... raced in the 200m, 400m and 500m in his second season with the team ... earned best time in 200m on the outdoor season at the Purdue Mike Poehlein Invitational, crossing in 22.80 while winning his finals heat and placing ninth overall in the event ... best time in the event on the indoor circuit came at the Notre Dame Invitational after finishing in 22.88 to win his finals heat and place fourth overall ... strongest time in 400m outdoors came at the BIG EAST Championships during his preliminary heat, finishing in 48.24 to place eighth and qualify for the finals ... in said finals, finished eighth with a time of 49.04 ... quickest time in the 400m on the indoor circuit came at the Blue & Gold Invitational with a mark of 49.11, good for fourth place ... only competed in the 500m dash on the indoor season, winning a three man race at the Notre Dame Invitational in 1:05.31.
AS A FRESHMAN: Opened Notre Dame career at the Blue and Gold Invitational ... ran the 400 (50.68) and teamed with the 4x400 relay (3:28.86) ... placed fourth overall in the open 400 (50.25) at the Notre Dame Invitational ... at the same meet, opened the 4x400 relay (3:27.84) ... ran the 400 in a personal-best 49.49 at the Notre Dame Indoor Opener ... first BIG EAST Indoor Championships appearance saw him go 50.44 in the 400 open ... opened the outdoor season at the Mike Poehlein Invitational with a 50.07 in the 400 ... in the 400 at the Border Battle, cross the line in 50.34 ... ran the second leg of the 4x400 relay that finished in 3:21.22 at the meet ... at the Dave Rankin Invitational, ran the 400 in 51.39.
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL: Seven- time letter winner in track, football and baseball at Bishop Heelan Catholic (Iowa) ... anchored the 4x400 relay state record-setting tandem as a senior ... helped team to conference and state track championships during his senior campaign ... named all-conference, all-city and all-state in track during his senior season ... track team captain during his final year ... helped football team to four conference championships ... team went undefeated and won the state title during senior season ... also played in the infield for the baseball team ... voted the American Legion Iowa Boys State governor ... born in Sioux City, Iowa ... son of Marty and Laurie Dougherty ... has six siblings ... enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business for marketing and the College of Arts and Letters as a design major.
