The Irish Track & Field team hosted the Meyo Invitational this weekend in the Loftus Sports Center.
AS A SENIOR: Participated in 11 meets for the Irish competing exclusively in pole vault … began the season with a 13th-place finish in pole vault at the Notre Dame Invitational (3.35m)... placed 21st at the Meyo Invitational (3.61m) ... earned a third-place finish at the Spire DI Invitational (3.67m)... snagged a fifth-place finish at the Alex Wilson Invitational (3.96m) ... competed in the ACC Indoor Championships but did not record a height … also competed at the Bobcat Invitational in first action of the outdoor season ... placed ninth in pole vault at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (3.55m) ... placed fifth at the Georgia Tech Invitational (3.72m) ... competed in the Jesse Owens Track Classic and placed 15th (3.75m) ... placed 11th at the GVSU Last Chance Meet (3.82m) ... finished in 15th place at the ACC Outdoor Championships (3.71m) … earned a monogram.AS A JUNIOR:Competed in three meets during the indoor/outdoor track & field season, competing exclusively in the pole vault ... first action of the season occurred at the Notre Dame Invitational with a 10th place finish (3.40m) ... concluded the indoor season with a 15th place finish at the Indiana Relays (3.45m) ... recorded a 12th place finish in the preliminaries (3.25m) in lone outdoor meet at the Hillsdale College Relays.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Competed in six meets during the indoor season ... specialized in the pole vault ... competed at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships ... placed second at the Indiana University Relays ... finished fourth at the Notre Dame Invitational with a personal best vault of 3.70m ... placed fourth at the Blue & Gold Invitational ... named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
AS A FRESHMAN: Competed in nine indoor & outdoor meets during the track & field season ... earned a top-ten finish four times on the year ... gathered in a personal best in the outdoor pole vault with a 3.55m distance at the Notre Dame Invitational ... concluded the season with a personal best pole vault distance (3.60m) at the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays ... named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL: Kayla Ann Polcari graduated from Ridgewood High School in the spring of 2011 ... lettered four times each in indoor & outdoor track & field and gymnastics ... specializes in the pole vault ... holds the school and county records in both indoor & outdoor track & field ... claimed the Dartmouth Relay title in both 2010 and 2011 ... earned the silver medal at the Penn Relays in 2011 and the bronze in 2010 ... set personal record of 12-5.5 in the 2011 Penn Relays ... won bronze medal at the Arcadia Invitational in 2011 ... claimed the Eastern State title in indoor track & field in 2010 ... earned all-conference, all-county and all-state honors throughout career ... ranked in the top 20 in the country as a senior in both indoor & outdoor track & field ... won the conference championship three times in outdoor and twice in indoor ... also claimed the sectional and state titles in outdoor as a senior ... team captain as a senior in track & field and as a junior and senior in gymnastics ... member of the National Honor Society ... received high honors in the classroom all four years ... served as a peer counselor in Freshman F.O.C.U.S and was active in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel youth group ... born to Peter and Elizabeth Polcari in Hackensack, N.J. ... has an older sister, Ann, who was a Irish pole vaulter as well ... father, Peter, also graduated from Notre Dame ... enrolled in the College of Science for science pre-professional studies and in the College of Arts & Letters for psychology.
