    AS A SENIOR: Developed into one of the most decorated distance runners in Irish track and field history ... captured the team's first individual outdoor track and field title since 1954 by winning the 10,000 meters at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. ... entered the 10,000-meter championship race seeded fourth, but ended up winning the race by 20 seconds (29:05.44) ... returned to the track the next day to compete in the 5,000 meters, taking sixth place, setting a school record (13:52.45) and earning his sixth All-America honor ... his All-America honors (three in the 10,000 meters, one in the indoor 5,000, one in the outdoor 5,000 and one in cross country) place him among Notre Dame?s all-time track and field and cross country performers ... Greg Rice (1937-39) and Peter Farrell (1965-68) also earned six honors, while Mike McWilliams (1992-95) earned five ... qualified for the 10,000-meter championship race with a 28:40.03 performace at the Stanford Inivtational ? taking fourth place in the highly competitive field ... returned home to win the 5,000 meters in the Spring Opener, while also taking third place in the 1,500 meters ... next outdoor competition on the calendar was the Mt. SAC Relays ... qualified for the outdoor 5,000-meter championship race with a 13:54.77 effort, good enough for 18th place in the prestigious field ... was the ninth collegiate runner across the finish line in the Mt. SAC 5,000 meters ... tuned up for the NCAA Championship by winning the 10,000 meters at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in 29:17.61, beating his closest competitior by 12 seconds ... his 10,000 BIG EAST victory gives him seven individual BIG EAST titles ... began the 2000-01 indoor season by competing in the mile run vs. Ball State and Western Michigan (finished sixth) ... ran the 3,000 meters the next week in a dual meet with Michigan State, taking first place in 8:19.75 ... returned to his signature indoor race at the Meyo Invitational, taking second place in the 5,000 meters in 13:52.66, qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championship ... won the 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship, taking first place in 14:10.00 ... also posted a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST meet in the 3,000 meters (8:10.21) ... competed in the 3,000 meters at the 2001 Alex Wilson invitational, taking third in a personal-best 8:05.44 ... capped off an impressive indoor campaign with a ninth-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. ... finished in 14:02.35, earning All-America honors ... unable to compete in the 2000 cross country season due to an injury.

    AS A JUNIOR: Became a two-time track All-American in the 10,000 meters with his second consecutive seventh-place appearance (30:54.65) ... started the year by dominating the competition in the 1999 cross country season ... won both the National Catholic Invitational (for the third time in as many tries) and the Notre Dame Invitational, leading the team to a first-place finish in the National Catholic and third in the Notre Dame Invite ... became the first Irish harrier to win the BIG EAST cross country title, finishing the course in 24:22 ... his first place BIG EAST finish allowed the team to capture its second-ever BIG EAST team title ... finished second at the District IV championships, qualifying for the NCAA championship meet and leading the team to a second place finish ... became Notre Dame?s 23rd cross country All-American at the NCAA championships, finishing 12th (30:46.10) ... competed in only three indoor events in the 2000 season ... finished third in the 5,000 at the Alex Wilson Invitational (14:08.31) ... ran the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST indoor championships ... returned to full-time competition in the outdoor season, concentrating on the 5,000 and 10,000 races ... dominated both races at the BIG EAST outdoor championships, winning the 5,000 in 14:42.91 and the 10,000 in 31:06.29 for his third and fourth career BIG EAST titles ... also won the 5,000 meters at the Spring Opener and the Gatorade Twilight meet ... ran a career-best time of 28.26.91 in the 10,000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays ... the 28.26.91 time qualified for an invitation to the U.S. Olympic Trials ... finished 10th (28.51.74) at the U.S. Olympic Trials, held in Sacramento, Calif.

    AS A SOPHOMORE: Earned All-America status in outdoor track with a seventh in the 10,000 meters (29:55.78) in ?99 at the NCAA meet ... automatically qualified for the NCAAs with a time of 29:01.59 at the Stanford Invitational ... posted an NCAA outdoor provisional time (14:02.35) in the 5,000 meters by winning the race at the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational ... earned all-BIG EAST outdoor track honors in the 5,000 (third) and 10,000 (second) ... competed in the indoor track season in the mile and the 3,000 and 5,000 meters ... 1999 BIG EAST champion in the 3,000 with a time of 8:20.38 ... also won the 5,000-meter race at the Alex Wilson Invitational with a NCAA provisional time of 14:13.88 ... Notre Dame?s top cross country runner in 1998 ... team?s lone individual qualifier to the NCAA cross country championships, finishing in 34:16.80 ... competed in seven meets overall ... opened season as the top collegiate runner at the Wolf & Kettle Invitational, running the course in 25:56 ... won the National Catholic Championships for the second year in a row, bettering his time by a little more than a minute ... finished second at the Notre Dame Invitational where he recorded his fastest 8K time of the season (23:21) ... earned all-BIG EAST honors with a sixth place at the conference championships in Boston, Mass. ... qualified for the NCAA championships with a 10th place at the district meet.

    AS A FRESHMAN: One of the 1997 cross country team?s top runners ... won his first two collegiate cross country meets ... won the Scarlet/Gray Invitational in 24:56.6 and the National Catholic meet in 24:53 ... second best on the team at the Notre Dame Invitational, where he placed 11th, and the Furman Invitational where he finished 28th ... third on the team at both the District IV and NCAA Championships ... did not compete in track and field.

    AT THE WORLD JUNIOR CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS: Competed for Team USA at the championships held in Marrakech, Morocco, in March of 1998 ... placed 20th out of 200 runners ... guided the U.S. to a seventh-place finish, its best finish since 1988 ... ran the course in 24:20 to post the highest finish by an American since 1992.

    HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL DATA: Won four cross country state titles, a first in Michigan boys high school cross country ... placed fourth at the junior national in the 5,000 meters in 1997 with a time of 14:58.76, qualifying for an alternate spot for 1997 Pan Am Games ... 1995 USA Track and Field 3,000 meter champion and 1996 USATF 5,000 meter champion ... also won AAU national titles in 1,500 meters and three 3,000-meter titles ... after not placing first in third cross country meet as a freshman, won every other high school cross country meet ... three-time 1,600 and 3,200 meters state champion ... also won the 800 meters as a sophomore ... earned three letters in basketball ... brother Nathan runs cross country and track and field for the Irish ... born May 4, 1979, in Ann Arbor, Mich. ... enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters with a major in economics.
