    Won a bronze in the 800m and finished sixth in the 1,500m at the 1976 Montreal games ... was a favorite for a medal at the 1972 Munich games, but fell in a heat of the 800m run ... finished second in the 800m at both the AAU and U.S. Olympic Trials in 1972 ... last runner to win both the 800 and 1,500m runs at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1976 ... named All-American after winning the 500m run in 1970 ... also earned All-America honors after helping the two-mile relay team finish second in 1969 ... Monogram winner in 1969 and 1970 ... won Sullivan Award as the nation's top amateur athlete in 1974 ... won the IC4A 880-yard title in 1971 ... broke the U.S. 800m record twice and twice set world records for the 880-yard race ... also set the world record in the 1,000m in 1974 ... won the 1,000m at the AAU Championships in 1973 and 1974 ... also won AAU indoor 1,000 yard titles from 1974-76 ... selected to the Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1991.
