ALLENDALE, Mich. - The University of Notre Dame men's and women's track and field teams achieved 11 event victories and placed 24 student-athletes in the top five of their respective events this weekend at the Bob Eubanks Open in the Kelly Family Sports Center on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
Jarrod Buchanon (60m hurdles, 4x400m relay), Chris Giesting (600m, 4x400m relay), Patrick Feeney (300m, 4x400m relay) and Brendan Dougherty (400m, 4x400m relay) each captured two first-place finishes for the men's squad. Margaret Bamgbose flourished on the women's side finishing first in the 200m dash and assisting the 4x400m relay team to a second-place finish.
The Irish return home next Saturday, Jan. 19 for the Notre Dame Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center.
EVENT RESULTS (Top-Five Only)
200m: Irish newcomer Margaret Bamgbose claimed a first-place finish in the event with a winning time of 24.65.
300m: Michelle Brown jolted ahead of the pack to finish first with a time of 38.76.
400m: Notre Dame claimed three of the top-four spots in the event. Megan Yanik led the charge with a winning time of 56.61. Jade Barber crossed the finish line in second (56.95) and was followed closely by Jaclyn Winkel who finished fourth (57.88).
60m Hurdles: A wave of blue and gold represented the front of the pack as the Irish captured two of the top-three spots. Nevada Sorenson pressed toward a second-place finish with a time of 8.48. Kaila Barber left no gap in between as she finished third (8.52).
4x400m Relay: The Irish housed two squads in the top-four positions. Jade Barber, Michelle Brown, Margaret Bamgbose and Megan Yanik finished less than a second behind first-place Michigan, coming in at 3:44.41. Jaclyn Winkel, Kaila Barber, Mikaila Chamblee and Amber Lalla finished fourth with a time of 3:52.85.
Pole Vault: Ann Polcari made Notre Dame's presence felt in the event as she finished fifth with a 3.64m mark.
Shot Put: Emily Morris finished second in the event with a distance of 13.71m.
Triple Jump: Mary Esther Gourdin (first-11.36m) and Jessie Christian (second-11.12m) each outleap their foes by a meter or more to take the top-two spots.
Weight Throw: Vivien Devaney finished fourth after throwing for a distance of 17.28m.
Pentathlon: Carly Loeffel finished in the top spot for the Irish with 3,635 points. Meghan Moore was not far behind in second after finishing with 3,492 points.
60m: Keith Mesidor cracked the top-five crossing the finish line with a time of 7.04 for fourth.
300m: Patrick Feeney took control of the event after finishing first with a winning time of 33.81.
400m: Veteran Brendan Dougherty won the event with a time of 48.88. Irish rookie Aaron Dunn nabbed a third-place finish with a time of 50.57.
600m: Chris Giesting separated himself from the field as he took the top spot with a winning time of 1:19.55.
60m Hurdles: Jarrod Buchanon overcame his foes as he finished first with a time of 8.16.
4x400m Relay: Brendan Dougherty, Chris Giesting, Jarrod Buchanon and Patrick Feeney surpassed the competition to take a first-place finish with a winning time of 3:13.51.
Long Jump: Notre Dame secured a top-five finish in the event as Keith Mesidor leaped to a third-place finish (6.76m).
Heptathlon: Senior Ted Glasnow won the heptathlon with 5,104 points. Glasnow bested Calvin Sullins by 125 points by winning the 60m dash, long jump and shot put and finishing in the top four in all seven events.
