AUSTIN, Texas --- The University of Notre Dame finished up a weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin, marking the official beginning of outdoor track season.
Senior Ted Glasnow competed in the men's decathlon over the first several days of the Relays, ultimately placing seventh of 15 in the event. His top performances were in the pole vault (first place, 4.40m), shot put (third place, 13.78m) and the discus (second place, 45.39m).
In the finals of the women's 100m hurdles, junior Jade Barber placed sixth with a time of 13.13. In the men's 400m hurdles, senior Jarrod Buchanon placed seventh with a time of 52.82.
In the finals of the women's 4x400m relay, Barber, senior Michelle Brown, junior Amber Lalla and sophomore Margaret Bamgbose placed second with a time of 3:35.91. On the men's side, freshman Harvey Smith, junior Chris Giesting, senior Patrick Feeney and Buchanon finished fourth in 3:08.60.
Junior Keith Mesidor placed seventh in section B of the men's long jump with a distance of 7.22m.
In Houston, other members of the Irish teams competed at the Victor Lopez Classic. Lena Madison came in fifth of the women's discus with a throw of 41.11m. Indi Jackson was just behind her in seventh place at 40.56m.
Carson Barnes placed third in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.17m. In the women's event, Jes Christian also placed third with a jump of 5.73m.
Amanda Chamblee placed second in the women's javelin with a throw of 40.49, and Mary Esther Gourdin finished in third of the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.08.
On the track side, Alex Groesch finished in third of the men's 400m dash with a time of 48.53. The Irish also had four runners place in the top 10 of the men's 800m run--Eddy Gibbons (fifth, 1:54.61), Adam Turner (sixth, 1:55.30), Steve Blazer (seventh, 1:56.35) and Grant Koch (ninth, 1:57.60).
Michelle Rotondo won the women's 400m hurdles event with a time of 1:100.75, almost a full second faster than the second place finisher. Finally, Connor Stapleton placed first in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.64, and Aaron Dunn was right behind him in second place with a time of 54.04.
Next up for the Irish is the Stanford Invitational this weekend in California.
