WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Notre Dame track and field squads won nine events on Saturday at the Mike Poehlein Invitational on the campus of Purdue University to close out a busy weekend that saw the team split three ways in order to compete in outdoor meets around the country.
Among the winners in West Lafayette, Ind., were regulars Kevin Schipper (pole vault), Kaila Barber (100mH) and Aijah Urssery (100m), as well as Amanda Chamblee (javelin), Annie Polcari (pole vault), Kelly Burke (triple jump), Jade Barber (400m), Emily Frydrych (800m) and Kari Johnson (5,000m).
Notre Dame travels to Palo Alto, Calif., next weekend for the Stanford Invitational.
Amanda Chamblee won the women's javelin throw with a toss of 38.71m. On the men's side, Peter Kristiansen placed third in the javelin with a throw of 47.61m.
Annie Polcari won the women's pole vault with a vault of 3.60m. Elsewhere, Kathryn Barousse took fourth with a vault of 3.45m.
Notre Dame's 100m hurdle duo of Kaila Barber and Nevada Sorenson claimed the top two spots with times of equal times of 13.82. Sasha Blanchard took sixth in 15.48.
Indoor All-American Kevin Schipper won his second consecutive outdoor title with a vault of 5.10m. Brother, David Schipper (4.60m), and teammate Patrick Krach (4.45m) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Irish swept the top three spots in the women's triple jump as Kelly Burke (11.50m), Mary Esther Gourdin (11.43m) and Lauren Leniart (11.35m) took first, second and third. On the men's side, Patrick Glass (12.94m) and Doug Onuscheck (12.70m) finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
Jade Barber won the women's 400m dash with a time of 55.62. Amber Lalla finished seventh in 58.09.
Sophomore Aijah Urssery won the women's 100m dash in 12.03, while Keith Mesidor (11.07) and Nick Dunn (11.21) finished sixth and seventh in the men's 100m dash.
Urssery also took third in the 200m dash in 25.30.
Notre Dame swept the women's 800m dash as Emily Frydrych (2:11.41), Angela Ryck (2:12.39) and Allison Schroeder (2:13.11) claimed the top three spots. McKenzie Schulz finished fifth in 2:14.13. On the men's side, Steve Blazer (1:55.48) finished second, Mike Bradley (1:57.87) took seventh and Max Cruz (1:58.70) finished eighth.
Kari Johnson and Kathyrn Moran claimed the top two spots in the women's 5,000m, finishing in 18:03.92 and 18:05.93, respectively. Megan Heeder placed fifth in 18:35.85. Jason Hoard finished third in the men's 5,000m run, crossing the line in 15:02.88
Sasha Blanchard (1:04.65) and Jaclyn Winkel (1:04.81) placed second and third, respectively, in the women's 400m hurdles. On the men's side, Oye Eyeguokan took fourth in 57.88.
Frydrych, Ryck, Scroeder and Schulz placed third in the women's 4x400m relay, finishing in 3:57.97.
Vivien Devaney finished third in the women's discus with a toss of 44.99m. Anthony Thomas (49.01m) and Dominick Padovano (47.61m) took second and third in the men's discus, respectively.
Three women's long jumpers finished in the top eight as Lauren Leniart (5.25m), Fiona Paladino (5.19m) and Kelly Burke (5.05m) took second, fifth and eighth, respectively. Keith Mesidor (4th, 6.93m) and Patrick Glass (7th, 6.38m) each placed in the top eight in the men's long jump.
Sophomore Emily Kujawski placed eighth in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 48.76m. On the men's side, senior Mitchell Gormley also finished eighth in the hammer with a throw of 52.31m.
Johnny Fuller took fourth in the men's 3,000m steeplechase in 9:34.97.
Fiona Paladino finished second in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.65m.
Four Irish men's 1,500m runners placed in the top eight, as DJ Thornton (2nd, 3:59.52), Kevin Byrne (5th, 4:01.31), Patrick Lesiewicz (6th, 4:01.35) and Walter Schafer (7th, 4:01.84) all crossed the line within two seconds of each other.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Senior Maddie Buttinger took sixth in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays to highlight the meet for the Irish, which was held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Buttinger, who scored 5,329 points, won the shot put (12.34m), tied for fourth in the high jump (1.69m), took fifth in the long jump (5.76m) and sixth in the 800m run (2:18.68) as she finished in the top six in four events. She also placed 11th in the 200m dash (25.42), 15th in the javelin throw (29.59m) and 16th in the 100m hurdles (14.82).
Elsewhere in Austin, junior Ted Glasnow finished 14th in the decathlon and freshman Carly Loeffel placed 19th in the heptathlon as they competed against a host of talented performers.
Glasnow, who finished with 6,654 points, won the discus with a toss of 42.22m. Loeffel's best performance came in the 800m run where she finished 12th in 2:23.48.
NEIL MOORE MULTI'S - EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
CHARLESTON, Ill. - Junior Dean Odegard finished second in the decathlon to highlight a Notre Dame contingent of four performers at the Neil Moore Multi's on the campus of Eastern Illinois on Thursday and Friday.
Odegard compiled 6,297 points, and won the 1,500m run (4:35.20) and the discus (41-18m), finished fourth in the javelin (41.73m) and tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.20m).
He also finished 11th in the 100m dash (12.03), eighth in the 400m dash (53.27), eighth in the 110m hurdles (17.01), fifth in the high jump (1.86m), eighth in the long jump (6.08m) and sixth in the shot put (10.83m).
Freshman Carson Barnes placed 11th in the decathlon with 5,343 points. He had four top-four finishes during the 10-event competition. He took third in the javelin (42.85m) and third in the 1,500m run (4:54.14) and finished fourth in the 100m dash (11.60) and tied for fourth in the long jump (6.45m).
Junior Alex Bavis competed in four events before pulling out of the 400m dash and not finishing the rest of the day. Bavis tied for sixth in the high jump (1.83m) to highlight his day.
Sophomore Meghan Moore finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,279 points. She finished fifth in the 200m dash (26.16), seventh in the 800m run (2:39.21), sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.40), seventh in the high jump (1.50m), fourth in the long jump (5.30m), sixth in the shot put (9.79m) and eighth in the javelin (22.93m).
