Keys to the Meet: Alex Wilson Invitational

Feb. 17, 2017

By Megan Golden

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The University of Notre Dame track and field program looks to capitalize on one final opportunity for individuals to qualify for the conference meet at the Alex Wilson Invitational at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Loftus Sports Center.

WHAT: Alex Wilson Invitational
WHEN: Saturday, February 18 at 11 a.m.
WHERE: Loftus Sports Center
LIVE RESULTS: DeltaTiming.com

What to Watch

The Irish will race in the women’s and men’s distance medley relay with the hopes of qualifying for nationals. Keep a close eye on the men’s DMR squad, which includes seniors Jacob Dumford, Chris Marco, Patrick O’Connell and John Rutkowski.

Freshman Troy Pride Jr. is scheduled to race in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Sophomore Zachary Zajdel will join Pride and race in the 200m.

Looking to Qualify

Junior Jessica Harris will try to improve her time in the mile on Saturday after finishing second in the Meyo Mile on February 4 with a time of 4:37.83. Harris’ time currently ranks 20th in the country, which means she likely will need to trim her top mark by a few seconds to qualify nationally.

“This weekend I want to look for a better qualifying time for the national meet,” Harris said. “Being my second open mile, I'll be running for time while still getting a feel for the tactics of the race.”

Injury Update

Graduate student and four-time NCAA Champion Molly Seidel suffered an ankle injury and will be sidelined for approximately three weeks. Seidel, who returned this winter for a fifth year, was looking to win her third straight ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000m and 5,000m races.

For the Record

Irish senior Nathan Richartz snapped his own school record with a 5.50m jump and a first-place finish in the pole vault at the Tiger Paw Invitational on February 10. Richartz’s vault ranks tied for seventh in the country.

Notre Dame senior Anthony Shivers recorded a 20.27m throw at the Meyo Invitational, breaking his previous school record and finishing sixth overall.
