    Five Irish Track & Field Student-Athletes Selected To Capital One Academic All-District Teams

    NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Junior Logan Renwick (Butler, Pa.), junior Kelly Curran (Bloomington, Ill.) and senior Rebecca Tracy (Barrington, Ill.) were announced as Capital One Academic All-District V At-Large first team honorees while junior Megan Yanik (Plymouth, Mich.) and senior Jessica Rydberg (Pinetop, Ariz.) achieved second-team accolades, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday (May 29).

    To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

    First-team honorees Renwick, Curran and Tracy automatically advance to national ballot in an effort to become one of 816 distinguished student-athletes chosen as a Capital One Academic All-Americans.

    Since its first selection in 1988 (Tom Mick-third team), the University of Notre Dame men's and women's track and cross country teams have had 22 Academic All-Americans through the years, including most recent recipient, Andrew Hills (2012-third team).

    Renwick, a 2013 all-BIG EAST outdoor honoree (long jump), picks up his second-straight All-District V First Team at-large selection.

    The junior placed third (7.62m) at the 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship and made an appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary meet this past weekend. According to the Track & Field Results Reporting System's (TFRRS) latest posting, Renwick ranks No. 34 on the national long jump list, reaching a distance of 7.62m from the board.

     

     

    Renwick, a mechanical engineering major, leads the five Irish candidates with a 3.89 G.P.A and holds the third-highest G.P.A in his district.

    Tracy, the 2012 Indoor BIG East Champion (1,500m), boasts a 3.56 G.P.A. as a double major in psychology and pre-professional studies.

    She represented the Irish on the track as a 2013 Indoor (mile) and 2012 outdoor (1,500m) All-American. The senior placed 10th at the NCAA East Preliminary in the 1,500m (3:39.92) and earned a bid to the 2013 NCAA National Championship taking place next week.

    Tracy also set a new meet, track and school record in the mile at the Alex Wilson Invitational (March 2), registering a time of 4:33.53.

    The Irish veteran placed 96th (20:47.20-6K) at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships and crossed the line at 20:48.00 (15th- 6K) at the NCAA Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championship. Tracy also won the National Catholic Cross Country Championship at Notre Dame with a winning time of 17.11.8.

    Curran ran a leg of the women's distance medley team at the 2013 indoor national championship, placing seventh with a time of 11:01.49 for first-team All-American honors.

    Curran placed 100th (20:48.00) at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships and finished 10th (20:40.00) at the NCAA Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championship.

    The junior placed third in the 1,500m (4:16.09) at the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary, safely advancing to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship.

    Curran holds a 3.75 G.P.A. as a double major in science and business.

    Rydberg, a 2010 outdoor All-American (10,000m), holds a 3.66 G.P.A. in pre-professional studies.

    The senior competed in two meets this season posting a 17:16.90 in the 5,000m and 10:00.48 in the 3,000m.

    During the cross-country season, Rydberg finished 144th (21:04.30) at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships and 31st (21:06.00) at the NCAA Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships.

    Yanik was named a second-team All-American after helping the 4x400m team place 11th (3:35.85) at the 2013 Indoor NCAA National Championship.

    The junior was the runner-up (58.65) at the 2013 Outdoor BIG EAST Championship meet in the 400m hurdles.

    Yanik punched her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship after placing 10th (58.66) in the 400mH.

    Yanik carries a 3.61 as a double major in science and Spanish.

    Yanik, Tracy, Curran and Rydberg aided the women's team No. 18 ranking on the USTFCCCA's national list during the week of May 6th.

    The Capital One Academic All-American ballot results will be released at a later date.
