Erin Locascio is a photography and graphic design intern for the University of Notre Dame. Throughout the year she will have a weekly post about her favorite five photos from the week's events. This week Locascio is highlighting Notre Dame women's basketball and track and field.
In each post Locascio will give background information on the photo and why she selected it.
Dumford Sets 1K RecordLast Friday night the Fighting Irish track and field team competed in their first meet of the season. There were personal records set by many individuals but no better than Jacob Dumford's 2:21 time in the 1,000-meter. This is the perfect moment captured between two teammates right after Dumford crossed the finish line. The smile on Jacob's face shows how much a moment like this means. I am glad I was in the right place at the right time to capture a moment that he will want to remember forever.
Arike Ties Career-HighIn a road game at Michigan last week, Arike Ogunbowale went off for 32 points. Through the first half she had 20 points, and by the end of the game, she hit a career-high 13 field goals. This was easily my favorite of her from this game even though she's not doing anything particularly special. The ref is putting his hands in the air as Ogunbowale runs by him. She was the one who just made that three. This picture is more significant knowing that Ogunbowale went 4-6 from behind the arc against the Wolverines.
Young Mid-AirJackie Young has been one of the top performers for the Notre Dame women's basketball team this season. Young is second on the team with 15.6 points per game and tied for first on the team with 8.0 rebounds per game. This was my favorite action shot from the game at Michigan as Young is caught perfectly mid air, fading away from the basket about to shoot. What makes this an even better shot is how the lights look like they are highlighting and shining down on Young's face, hand, and the ball, giving the photo a good focus point.
