September 20, 1996 Cross Country Tops Marquette, LewisThe Notre Dame men's and women's cross country teams swept the competition as the Irish claimed six of the top ten places in the men's race and four of the top ten places in the women's race. The men claimed the title with 18 points, while Marquette was second with 64 points and Lewis was third with 94. On the women's side, Notre Dame won with 36 points followed by Marquette with 46 and Lewis with 112.The top finisher for the Irish in the men's race was junior Jason Rexing, who took home first place with a time of 24:29 for the course. Senior Matt Althoff was second while seniors Derek Seiling and Joe Dunlop, junior Scott Grace, and sophomore Ryan Maxwell all placed in the top ten. Freshman Joanna Deeter took the top spot for the Irish on the women's
side with a time of 16:39 while her teammates freshman Nicole Laselle,
senior Heidi Reichenbach, and junior Mieke Walsh all finished in the top ten.
