    In For The Long Haul

    Don't let his quiet demeanor fool you. Longtime Notre Dame coach Tim Connelly has made a lasting impact on the women's cross country and track distance runners over the past quarter-century.

    AS A JUNIOR: Among the top distance and cross country specialists on the Irish roster throughout the 2001-02 season ... began the 2001 cross country season in fine form, winning the National Catholic Invitational individual title ... finished second on the team and third overall at the Notre Dame Invitational, helping the Irish capture the team title ... third on the team (65th overall) at the Pre National meet ... led Notre Dame to its fourth-place finish at the highly competitive BIG EAST Conference championship meet, finishing seventh to earn all-BIG EAST honors ... third on the team and 22nd overall at the Great Lakes Regional, helping Notre Dame earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field by finishing second as a team ... crossed the finish line in 130th place at the NCAA Championship, as the Irish finished 19th as a team ... began the indoor track and field season by winning the mile (5:01.09) at the Tri Meet vs. Western Michigan and Ball State ... moved up to the 3,000 meters against Michigan State and won easily in 9:54.30 ... finished fourth in the 3,000 meters at the Meyo Invitational, shaving time off her season best to 9:41.38 ... posted an impressive double-duty effort at the BIG EAST indoor meet, finishing fifth in the 3,000 meters (9:39.97) and fourth in the 5,000 meters (17:01.74) ... began the outdoor season with a solid 10,000-meter effort at the Stanford Invitational, finishing 10th in section A (16:28.55) ... ran the 1,500 meters at the Tom Botts Invitational and took third place in 4:26.65 ... ended up eighth in the 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST outdoor meet ... made the trip to the Georgia Tech Invitational, looking to improve her 5,000-meter time for a possible NCAA berth ... finished third in 17:23.09 ... ended up qualifying for the NCAA meet with her Stanford Invitational time (16:28.55) ... competed in her first NCAA track and field championship meet in Baton Rouge, La., finishing 18th in the 10,000 meter field.

    AS A SOPHOMORE: The top distance and cross country specialist on the Irish roster in 2000-01 ... began the cross country season by capturing her second consecutive Valparaiso Invitational individual title (17:58) ... first Irish runner across the finish line at the Notre Dame Invitational, taking 20th place ... ran the second BIG EAST cross country championship race of her career, finishing 31st ... also competed in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, finishing 19th ... first race of the indoor season was the mile run, finishing second vs. Ball State and Western Michigan ... followed up the next weekend with a second-place effort in the 3,000 meters vs. Michigan State ... ran a personal-best 4:53.67 in the mile run during the Meyo Invitational, taking second place ... finished ninth in the 3,000 meters at the 2001 BIG EAST Indoor Championships ... displayed her ability to excel at several different distances during the 2001 outdoor season, posting personal-best times in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 meters ... qualified for the BIG EAST outdoor championship with a 17:10.77 effort in the 5,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational ... earned two victories at the Spring Opener, taking the 1,500 metres in 4:42.92 and the 3,000 meters in 10:15.78 ... finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at the Tom Botts Invitational ... competed in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the 2001 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships ... earned all-BIG EAST honors after finishing second in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best 16:40.36 ... best 1,500 time of the year came in the last weekend of the season - a 4:27.30 time at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

    AS A FRESHMAN: Had an immediate impact on the cross country team and developed into one of the top three runners on the roster ... won the Valparaiso Invitational, leading the Irish to the team title, in 18:00.27, her first collegiate cross country meet ... combined with teammates JoAnna Deeter (first) and Alison Klemmer (second) to finish 1-2-3 in the National Catholic ... came in behind the same teammates in the Notre Dame Invitational, finishing sixth and helping the Irish earn the team title ... finished second on the team (12th) at the BIG EAST Championship, earning all-conference honors ... competed in the District IV Championship, helping the team finish fourth and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA championship meet ... finished second on the team and 134th overall at the NCAA meet ... competed in the mile and 3,000 meters in the 2000 indoor track season ... took first in the mile versus Indiana (5:03.28) ... ran the 1,500 and 3,000 in the 2000 outdoor season ... won the 3,000 at the Indy Relays, finishing in 9:48.85 ... competed in the 3,000 at the BIG EAST Championship, finishing 12th.
