    In For The Long Haul

    Don't let his quiet demeanor fool you. Longtime Notre Dame coach Tim Connelly has made a lasting impact on the women's cross country and track distance runners over the past quarter-century.

    AS A JUNIOR: Promising third-year campaign was derailed by a leg injury midway through the cross country season ... dominated the first three meets of the 2002 cross country season ... won the adidas Invitational, his first career individual cross country victory, with a 24:51 effort ... shaved even more seconds off that time at the National Catholic Invitational, taking first in 25:16 ... took third overall in the Notre Dame Invitational ... on his way to All-America honors, but suffered an injury during the Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind. ... was unable to compete in the BIG EAST Championship ... returned to the course at less than 100 percent for the Great Lakes Regional, but came through with a 26th-place finish ... also ran at the NCAA Championship, making the third championship appearance of his career ... ended up 80th in the NCAA field as Notre Dame finished 22nd as a team ... did not compete during the 2003 track and field season.

    AS A SOPHOMORE: Continued his development as one of the top distance runners on the Irish cross country and track and field teams ... began his second season on the cross country team in style, winning the Valparaiso Invitational for his first collegiate individual title ... combined with teammates Ryan Shay and Luke Watson to finish 1-2-3 in the National Catholic Invitational, finishing third in 24:15 ... repeated his third-place finish behind his teammates once again at the Notre Dame Invitational ... third Irish runner across the finish line at the Pre-National Meet in Furman, S.C., finishing 14th ... earned all-BIG EAST honors while helping the team to the league championship with an eighth-place effort (improving from 26th place his freshman season) ... helped secure an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship, as the Irish won the team title ... third across the finish line for Notre Dame in 38th place (earning All-America honors) at the NCAA cross country meet ... began the indoor track and field season with a 3,000-meter race at the Purdue Open ... ran the mile during the Tri-Meet with Western Michigan and Ball State, finishing sixth in 4:21.62 ... moved back to the 3,000 against Michigan State, taking seventh in 8:29.10 ... moved up to the 5,000 for the Meyo Invitational, finishing fifth in 14:23.12 ... competed in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST indoor meet, taking fifth in the 5,000 (14:23.00) and 10th in the 3,000 (career-indoor best 8:21.11) ... shaved more time off his indoor best in the 5,000 meters during the Alex Wilson Invitational, taking seventh in 14:14.33 ... concentrated on the 10,000 meters during the outdoor season, just missing a spot in the NCAA Championship ... ripped off a great run at the Stanford Invitational, finishing 21st in the top section in 29:11.35 ... did not compete in the outdoor season again until the BIG EAST Championship, in which he ran both the 5,000 and 10,000 ... finished ninth in the 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST meet (14:37.97) ... earned second all-BIG EAST honor of the year (combined with cross country) in the 10,000 meters, finishing third in 30:28.57.

    AS A FRESHMAN: Developed into one of the top-five runners on the Irish cross country team, as well as one of the top distance specialists during the track and field seasons ... Notre Dame's fourth runner across the finish line at the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championship, helping the team finish in ninth place ... helped the team qualify for the NCAA championship race with a 24th-place effort at the Great Lakes Regional ... began the season with a 17th-place finish at the Valparaiso Invitational ... won the National Catholic Invitational junior varsity race in 26:00 ... took 49th place in the Notre Dame Invitational ... fourth Irish harrier across the finish line at the 2000 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship, finishing in 27th place ... finished fifth in his first collegiate track and field event - the 3,000 meters vs. Ball State and Western Michigan ... top Notre Dame finisher in the 5,000 meters at the Alex Wilson Invitational in 16th place ... one of three Irish runners to compete in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational to kick off the outdoor season (finished 59th) ... returned to the 5,000 meters at the Tom Botts Invitational, taking fifth place in 15:02.11 ... had a solid 2001 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship effort, finishing 13th in the 10,000 meters and eighth in the 5,000 meters.

    PREP AND PERSONAL: Four-year letterwinner in cross country and track at Walled Lake Central High School ... 1999 Michigan state cross country runner-up ... 1999 Oakland County cross country champion ... 2000 Oakland County 3,200-meter champion ... took 18th at the 2000 FootLocker cross country nationals ... finished third in the 3,200-meters at the 2000 state meet in 9:08, one of the top 20 high school times in the nation ... earned all-state honors in track and cross country his senior season ... set school records in the 5,000-kilometer cross country category, the 3,200 meters and also a member of the school-record setting 3,200-meter medley relay team ... led the cross country team to a state-meet invitational his sophomore season, as team finished seventh in the state ... helped the track team finish ninth in the state his senior season ... member of the National Honor Society ... born March 27, 1981 in Farmington Hills, Mich. ... enrolled in the College of Science with a math major and is also working toward an MBA in the Mendoza College of Business.
