TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
The Notre Dame women's cross country team totaled 519 points to finish 23rd Monday at the NCAA Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
The 24th-ranked Irish recorded their best finish at the national meet since a seventh-place showing in 2005.
Senior Lindsey Ferguson earned her first all-America honor, finishing 30th with a time of 20:43. Freshman Jessica Rydberg finished 54th in 21:04, junior Marissa Treece was 129th with a time of 21:43 and sophomore Rachel Velarde clocked in at 21:44 to finish 130th. Freshman Rebecca Tracy finished 176th in 22:16, sophomore Kari Johnson was 195th in 22:46 and junior Erica Watson finished 196th with a time of 22:47.
Villanova won the women's team title with 86 total points. Florida State was second with 113 points and Washington was third with 188.Texas Tech (191) and Princeton (251) rounded out the top five.
Illinois' Angela Bizzarri took home the individual crown with a time of 19:47.
Senior Jake Walker represented the Irish men, finishing 129th with a time of 31:12.5.
Oklahoma State won the men's team title with 127 points, followed by Oregon in second with 143 and Alabama in third with 173 points.
Liberty's Samuel Chelanga won the men's individual crown with a time of 28:41.3.
