NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named Notre Dame to its list of 2009 Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic Teams.

The Irish women's squad carried a 3.38 grade-point average during the fall 2009 semester.

Notre Dame had an outstanding cross country season, winning the Great Lakes Regional title for the first time since 2003 and finishing 23rd at the NCAA Championships behind the 30th-place performance of All-American Lindsey Ferguson.

Villanova was named the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Wildcats won their eighth NCAA Championship in the fall, while carrying a 3.39 GPA. The Scholar Team of the Year distinction goes to the program that earned All-Academic Team honors and placed the highest among the field at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. In addition, a total of 176 women's cross country programs earned All-Academic Team status.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
