NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame men's and women's cross country teams and head coaches Joe Piane and Tim Connelly have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2000 season.

The Irish will kick off their season for the second straight year at the Valparaiso Invitational in Valparaiso, Ind., September 9. The teams then play host to the 21st annual National Catholic Championships, which included over 60 teams in 1999, on September 22. After taking a week off, the 45th running of the Notre Dame Invitational will take place on October 6. Both home meets will be run at the University's golf course.

After the two home meets, the Irish head to the important pre-national meet in Ames, Iowa, October 14, before preparing for the BIG EAST championships, which will be run in Boston's Franklin Park on October 27. The teams will then look to qualify for the NCAAs at the Great Lakes Region/District IV meet on November 11. The NCAA championships will be held this season at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, on Monday, Nov. 20.

In 1999, both the men's and women's Notre Dame cross country squads qualified for the NCAA championships, with the men placing eighth and the women 29th.
