NEW YORK - Former Notre Dame cross country runner Nick Radkewich was the
highest finishing American in the triathlon at the Goodwill Games
in New York City. He finished sixth the race which began in the
Hudson River between Battery Park and the Staue of Liberty and
proceeded to Central Park. His time of 1:49.37 was 3:04 behind
Great Britain's gold-medal winning Simon Lessing's time of
1:46.33.
The Hudson, Ohio native and 1993 Notre Dame graduate was a
three-year monogram winner in cross country at Notre Dame from
1990-92. He was a top 10 finisher at the Midwestern Collegiate
Conference cross country meet in his senior year and was second
as a sophomore. Radkewich won an MCC championship in track and
field, winning the 5,000 meters as a sophomore.
Radkewich qualified for the 1998 Goodwill Games by winning the
1998 Goodwill Games and ITU Triathlon World Championship
Qualifier in Clermont, Fla., in June. He also is eligible to
compete in the ITU World Triathlon Championship August, 29, in
Lausanne, Switzerland.
