Aug. 29, 2017

By Megan Golden

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The University of Notre Dame cross country team announced its 2017 schedule on Tuesday. The Irish are scheduled to host two home meets and travel to three additional regular-season meets.

The Irish open their season at the Crusader Open (Valparaiso) on Friday, where both the men’s and the women’s teams recorded perfect scores in 2016.

Notre Dame plays host to the National Catholic (Notre Dame) on Sept. 15 and the Notre Dame/Joe Piane Invitational (Notre Dame) on Sept. 29 with both meets being held at Burke Golf Course on the Notre Dame campus.

“This is honestly the most excited I’ve been going into a cross country season in a long time,” senior Kevin Pulliam said. “This year’s team is the deepest group we’ve had in my four years, and I think we have a real shot to compete for high finishes.”

The teams will divide and conquer on Oct. 13-14 as the women’s team kicks off the weekend with the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course on Oct. 13. That same weekend, the men’s squad will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for Pre-Nationals at Louisville’s E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Oct. 14.

Notre Dame, which enters its fifth season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will compete in its fifth ACC Championship in Louisville on Oct. 27.

The Irish continue their race to a national championship with NCAA Great Lakes Regionals (Nov. 10) in Terre Haute (LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course). The team wraps up its postseason at the NCAA Championships (Nov. 18) at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.

The Irish will compete at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on three separate occasions this season.

“I am really excited for this upcoming season,” junior Rachel DaDamio said. “I think the team is in a really good place to perform well. We have a mix of experienced runners and new athletes, and we’re all looking forward to competitions.”
