MEET THE STAFF...
HEAD COACH MEN'S SOCCER, BOBBY CLARK
There was nothing unlucky about Bobby Clark's 13th season on the University of Notre Dame sidelines as he guided the Fighting Irish to the 2013 NCAA title, the first for the program. Winning the national championship was the latest achievement on a long list of impressive accomplishments during an amazing playing and coaching career for the Scotland native.
Since coming to Notre Dame in January of 2001, Clark has engineered a great turnaround. In the two seasons prior to his arrival, the program suffered consecutive losing campaigns, but under Clark, Notre Dame has compiled a winning record every season en route to an impressive 214-88-54 (.677) mark. The Fighting Irish have been ranked in the final United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll in 14 of Clark's 16 seasons.
Clark wasted little time in bringing the Notre Dame program back into the national forefront. In his first season in 2001, the Irish flourished under his guidance and earned an NCAA Championship berth for the first time since 1996. That was the first of 15 NCAA tournament appearances during Clark's first 16 seasons at Notre Dame.
ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH, BJ CRAIG
BJ Craig, who was promoted to associate head coach in February of 2013, is entering his 10th season on the Notre Dame coaching staff. The Irish have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success with Craig on the sidelines, posting a 111-48-33 record and winning the 2013 national championship in addition to capturing four conference titles.
In Craig's nine seasons, Notre Dame has produced nine All-Americans, 39 all-conference selections, five conference players of the year and 23 total MLS draft picks. The program also has excelled in the classroom, boasting nine Academic All-America honorees and 14 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America selections, including two NSCAA Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
ASSISTANT COACH, MICHAEL CASPER
Michael Casper, the head coach at Saint Francis University (Pennsylvania) from 2007-14, joined the University of Notre Dame men’s soccer staff as an assistant coach in 2015. Casper enters his third season on the Irish sideline.
Notre Dame was the seventh overall national seed in Casper’s first campaign with the Irish in 2015, posting an 11-5-6 record that was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship. The Irish returned to the NCAA Championship Round of 16 for the fourth straight season, while fifth-year senior tri-captain Max Lachowecki (Real Salt Lake) and senior tri-captain Patrick Hodan (San Jose Earthquakes) were each selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft.
VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH, VERN GINGERICH
Vern Gingerich is set to begin his 10th season as a volunteer assistant coach on the Notre Dame staff. Among other duties, Gingerich works with the Irish goalkeepers.
The Notre Dame program has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success since Gingerich joined the staff. In those eight seasons, the Irish have posted a 111-48-33 record, won the 2013 national championship along with capturing four conference titles. Notre Dame goalkeepers have posted 71 shutouts under Gingerich's tutelage.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, GIULIANA FIGLIOMENI
Giuliana Figliomeni is in her second year as director of operations with the Notre Dame men’s soccer program having joined the staff in August 2016. Figliomeni is responsible for the coordination of team travel, organization of official recruit visits, supervision of student managers and maintenance of the team’s various social media accounts.
As an undergraduate at Notre Dame, Figliomeni served two years (2013-2015) as a student manager for the nationally ranked women’s basketball program.
