    Frequently Asked Questions

When did the Compton Family Ice Arena open?
The arena opened in October 2011. To find out more information about the building, click here.

    How do I get there?
You will find this information on our Directions page.

Can anyone come to your public skate?
Yes! Our public skate is open to members of our community, as well as students, faculty, and staff. For more information go to Public Skating.

Will there be public skate during ND Hockey games?
Because the CFIA has two sheets of ice, we are excited to offer an expanded schedule, which includes many times that overlap with ND Hockey games. Check our schedule for the most up to date information.

My child has some special needs. Will he/she be able to participate in events at CFIA?
At the CFIA, we believe on-ice events should be available to as many people as possible. We will do our best to accommodate your child's needs. Please contact email ndcfia@nd.edu or call (574) 631-1166 prior to your visit.

What does it mean to become a "member" of the Compton Family Ice Arena?
Becoming a member is completely free. After you fill out the registration form, you will be placed in our system and will be notified of special events and CFIA news if you wish. You must become a member to participate in on-ice activities.

I am only going to be in town for the weekend. Do I still have to register to become a member?
Yes. Every person who participates in an on-ice activity must be a member. This ensures that every person who uses the ice is aware of their responsibility for keeping themselves and others safe.

I am interested in playing hockey. How do I register?
Check out our youth and adult hockey tab to find out more information. Contact mmcneil1@nd.edu if you have any questions.

I am interested in figure skating. How should I register?
Check out our Figure Skating tab. If you have more questions, contact Molly Mahoney.

I cannot skate. Can I learn?
Of course! Anyone of any age can learn or relearn how to skate. Check out our Learn to Skate program. It offers people a chance to get on the ice with a certified instructor and learn the proper techniques to become a competent ice skater.

How can I purchase tickets to events at CFIA?
To purchase tickets, go to the Notre Dame Ticket Office website, which can be found here.

I have a question but don't know who to contact.
Email ndcfia@nd.edu or call (574) 631-1166 and your question will be forwarded to the appropriate person.
