Player Profile
Position:
Student Assistant Coach

Nick Mainieri - who served as a valuable reserve catcher on the 2004 and `05 Notre Dame baseball teams - has joined his father Paul's staff as an undergraduate student assistant coach during his senior year in 2005-06.

Mainieri appeared in 17 games during the 2004 and `05 Notre Dame seasons, scoring four runs with two RBI and four walks. He served the key role as the program's primary bullpen catcher during both seasons, helping prepare the various starters and relievers for their pitching appearances.

A battle-tested athlete at St. Joseph's High School, Mainieri served as the starting quarterback for SJHS and was one of eight former prep quarterbacks on the 2005 Notre Dame baseball team. A three-year football letterwinner, Mainieri became the program's first sophomore ever to start at quarterback and served as team captain during his senior season. He enters the 2006 spring semester with a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average and is on pace to graduate in May from the College of Arts and Letters, with a degree in English.
