Connecticut improved to 16-10-1 on the season and 6-1 in BIG EAST play with their 3-1 victory over the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (12-15-1, 3-4).
The Irish still lead the overall series with the Huskies, 23-12-1, which includes a 13-7 mark at Frank Eck Stadium.
The Huskies broke the 0-0 tie in the seventh inning when George Springer scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Fuller.
The Irish responded in the bottom frame when Greg Sherry hit an RBI single, driving Matt Grosso home. The RBI was Sherry's seventh and fourth in the last three games.
Connecticut scored the go ahead run in the top of the eighth when Nick Ahmed registered an RBI single.
Tim Martin added an insurance run for Connecticut with his ninth inning sacrifice fly.
Senior pitcher Brian Dupra went 7.1 innings for Notre Dame and gave up two earned runs on six hits. He recorded four strikeouts in the game while walking three Huskies.
Freshman Sean Fitzgerald pitched 1.2 innings of relief, giving up one run while striking out two.
Dupra (2-3) gave up his first earned run in BIG EAST play in the seventh inning. He had gone 20.1 innings without giving up a run. It is also the first earned run Dupra has allowed in the seventh inning.
Connecticut's starter Matt Barnes (6-2) did not give up a hit through 3.2 innings. Trey Mancini recorded the first hit for the Irish on the day in the fourth inning with a single to center. Barnes finished the day with 105 pitches in 7.1 innings. He gave up just the one earned run while striking out five.
Notre Dame sophomore catcher Joe Hudson threw out two Husky base runners on the night.
Freshman Eric Jagielo extended his hitting streak to eight games with his eighth inning infield single.
First baseman Trey Mancini now has a four game hitting streak, which is his longest of the season.
Herman Petzold and Sherry both recorded two hits in the contest. Petzold and Sherry now have seven and four multi-hit games, respectively.
For the sixth straight game the defensive line-up was held constant (Hudson - C; Mancini - 1B; Desico - 2B; Sherry - 3B; Doyle - SS; Grosso - LF; Jagielo - CF; Petzold - RF; Norton - DH). That defensive lineup is now 3-4 on the season.
The lineup of Desico, Doyle, Jagielo, Mancini, Petzold, Grosso, Sherry, Hudson and Norton fell to 1-1 on the season.
