NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame junior pitchers Brian Dupra and Evan Danieli were each selected on the second day of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Dupra was selected in the 11th round, pick #343 overall, by the Detroit Tigers. Danieli was then pegged in the 24th round, pick #734 overall, by the Atlanta Braves. Both Dupra and Danieli were drafted out of high school in the 2007 draft. Dupra was selected by Texas Rangers in 36th round, while Danieli was chosen in 33rd round by Minnesota Twins.

As juniors, Dupra and Danieli each have the option to return to Notre Dame for their senior season. Danieli actually has two years of eligibility remaining if he so chooses after missing the entire 2010 season due to injury.

"Draft day is always an exciting day for the players, but it is also exciting for our coaching staff," head coach Dave Schrage said. "Brian and Evan both were drafted out of high, but choose to join our program and they each improved their draft position. Whatever decision they make in terms of signing contracts, they will both earn degrees from the University."

"I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to go on and play professional baseball," Dupra said. "I could not be happier joining an organization like Detroit. The Tigers are a team that believes in college baseball and I hope to continue their success with drafting players from the NCAA."

"I'm honored that the Atlanta Braves organization felt I was worthy to be drafted in the top 25 rounds, especially after missing all of last season, Danieli said. "Needless to say, the Braves have a long history of developing pitchers for professional baseball."

Dupra (Rochester, N.Y.) went 4-5 with a 6.21 earned run average in 15 appearances this past spring. Dupra allowed 104 hits and struck out 53 in 82.2 innings of work. Opponents batted .305 against Dupra. He made 14 starts for Notre Dame in 2010, including six quality starts. Dupra limited Cincinnati to a pair of earned runs in 7.1 innings of work on April 23. He fanned career-high tying eight and walked one. Dupra also struck out eight, walked none, and allowed two earned runs against Gonzaga on March 13. He did not allow an earned run in 6.0 innings against Seton Hall on April 16.

Dupra has pitched in 40 career games for the Irish, including 36 starts. He owns a career record of 13-13 and a 6.40 earned run average. Dupra has yielded 280 hits in 211.0 innings of work as foes batted .319. He has also recorded 131 career strikeouts. Dupra has tossed four career complete games. He ranks tied for ninth all-time in fewest walks per nine innings at 2.05.
