NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame baseball team scored six unanswered runs to open the contest, and never trailed in a 9-3, 14-inning exhibition win over the Ontario Blue Jays Friday night at Frank Eck Stadium.

Senior second baseman Frank DeSico led off the bottom of the first inning with a sharp double down the left field line before advancing to third on an Eric Jagielo groundout. DeSico later scored on a wild pitch from Blue Jay starter Steven Dressler to give the Irish a 1-0 lead.

Notre Dame broke the contest open in the bottom of the third, as a Charlie Markson RBI single plated DeSico from second base to up the home team's lead to 2-0. Freshman James Nevant followed two batters later with a single to right field, scoring Markson (3-0). Sophomore Ryan Bull then singled to center, and Nevant scored all the way from first on an errant throw to extend the Notre Dame advantage to 4-0.

DeSico finished his day 1-for-1 with two runs scored, while Nevant chipped in two base hits and an RBI for Notre Dame.

Sophomore starter Pat Connaughton was impressive on the mound, allowing no hits in his two innings of work. Fellow sophomore Matt Ternowchek worked three innings of shutout baseball, walking one and striking out two Blue Jay hitters.
