Perfect Game List (Membership Required For Full Rankings)
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Notre Dame junior right-handed pitcher Pat Connaughton has been named the No. 46 prospect among 2014 draft-eligible players by Perfect Game in the publication’s post-fall college top 50 list that was released Monday.
The publication ranked Connaughton as the No. 22 RHP and had this to say about him:
“The Irish two-sport talent is a tall righty with projection, a low-90s fastball and a three-pitch mix.”
“I’m happy for Pat that he earned recognition from Perfect Game for the talent that he has,” said fourth-year head coach Mik Aoki. “I’m even more excited that Pat is focused on improving his ranking during the season. He knows that this publication won’t ultimately decide where he is drafted, it will instead be based on how he performs this season.”
Connaughton, who is averaging 11.0 points and 6.3 rebounds during his junior basketball campaign, had a productive sophomore season on the diamond in 2013, going 4-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 10 starts after finishing up the 2012-13 hoops season.
An Arlington, Mass., native, Connaughton was drafted in the 38th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the San Diego Padres after an outstanding high school career at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass. At that time, he was ranked the 33rd-best overall prospect nationally by Perfect Game.
The Irish, who went 34-24 last season, begin their first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference in mid February with a non-conference trip to 2013 NCAA Tournament team Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., for a three-game set (Feb. 15-16).
