    1997-98 University of Notre Dame Basketball Biography Updates

    53, Pat Garrity, Forward, 6-9, 231, Senior, Monument, CO (Lewis Palmer)

    Was in the starting lineup in the first 17 games this season and then came off the bench in the next four games, two of which he set a career high for points in...returned to the starting lineup on Feb. 14 against Miami and scored 11 points...set a career-high with 21 points vs. Boston College (Feb. 11) on eight of 12 shooting from the field...had a then career-high 20 points vs. Rutgers (Feb. 5) - hitting seven-of-nine field goals in the game...had a career-high 15 rebounds vs. Seton Hall (Jan. 16)...in BIG EAST action through Feb. 20, is sixth in rebounding in overall games at 8.0...also in overall games is tied for 12th in blocked shots (1.04), sixth in offensive rebounding (3.08) and sixth in defensive rebounding (4.92)...in conference games, is fifth in rebounding (8.2), tied for 15th in blocked shots (0.94) and sixth in defensive rebounding (5.13)...had 15 points vs. Florida International (Dec. 22)...second leading scorer on the team at 10.6 points per game and is second in rebounds at 8.0...had 15 points and 11 rebounds in season-opener vs. The Citadel (Nov. 17)...also had a career-high five assists...combined with teammate Pat Garrity to score 31 of Notre Dame's 35 second-half points in BIG EAST road win at Pittsburgh...has scored in double figures in 12 games this year and has led or tied for the lead in rebounding for the Irish in nine contests.

    Freshman point guard who has started all 24 games this season...leads the team with 136 assists (5.7 per game)...had his second career double-double vs. Syracuse (Jan. 21) with 10 points and 10 rebounds...through games of Feb. 22, is fourth in the BIG EAST in assists in overall games (5.67)...is also fifth in assist/turnover ratio and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (38.5)..in conference games, is tied for fourth in assists (5.00) and ninth in assist/turnover ratio...averaging 6.5 points per game and registered career-high with 16 points vs. Florida International (Dec. 20)...has had 10 or more assists in four games...before the St. John's game (Dec. 30), had connected on eight-straight three-point field goal attempts...dished off a career-high 12 assists at Indiana, which were the most by an opposing player against a Bobby Knight-coached team at Assembly Hall...had 11 assists and just one turnover in win over Northeastern (Nov. 25) and hauled in a personal best six rebounds in the contest...has played 788 minutes this season and committed just 71 turnovers - one for every 11.1 minutes...owns a 1.92:1 assists-to-turnovers ratio...has been the Irish leader in the assist column or tied for the lead in 15 games...first freshman to start season-opening game at Notre Dame since junior Antoni Wyche versus Akron in 1995.
