Men's Hoops Pat Garrity Recieves More Honors
Named Target Scholar Athlete.
NEW YORK - Pat Garrity, a senior forward for the University of Notre Dame, has been named the 1997-98 Target/BIG EAST Men's
Basketball Scholar-Athlete.
Garrity receives a $2,000 scholarship which may be applied to graduate or professional studies.
Target will sponsor over $60,000 in post-graduate awards to BIG EAST Scholar-Athletes in the 1997-98 academic year.
Since 1985, the scholar-athlete awards have recognized the men and women in the league who have achieved success in the classroom and on
the athletic playing fields in the conference's 19 sports.
The 6-9 native of Monument, Colo. is a pre-professional major in the College of Science. He has made the Dean's List in six of seven
semesters and carries an overall grade point average of 3.679. Garrity was a first team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 1996-97. On
the court last season, he was named BIG EAST Player of the Year.
This year Garrity is an All-BIG EAST First Team selection. Going into this week's BIG EAST Championship the senior is averaging 23.4
points and 8.3 rebounds. In BIG EAST games, he won the league scoring title by averaging 24.1 points. He is one of only two conference
players to reach double figures in scoring in every game this season.
Garrity is the third leading scorer in Notre Dame history with 2,067 points.
