Providence explodes to 82-59 Win Over Notre Dame
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Jamel Thomas poured in a game-high 27
points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field to lead host
Providence to an 82-59 victory over Notre Dame today at the
Providence Civic Center.
Thomas scored 18 of his 27 points in the first half as
Providence built up a convincing 42-24 halftime lead. God
Shammgod added 10 points in the half and finished the game with
18.
Pat Garrity paced Notre Dame in its Big East opener with 20
points and eight rebounds. Garrity was 10-for-11 from the foul
line. Derek Manner added 11 points and six rebounds for the
Irish.
Notre Dame (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big East) shot just 35 percent
from the floor for the game, while Providence (5-2 overall, 1-1
Big East) shot 47 percent. Notre Dame also committed 23
turnovers, compared to just 11 for Providence.
