Notre Dame Scores 22 in Overtime for Win
SOUTH BEND, IND. -- The Notre Dame men's basketball team scored 22 points in overtime and defeated Providence 86-74 at the Joyce Center Saturday afternoon.
Providence used strong defense to earn a 35-28 lead at halftime, holding the Irish to 34.6 percent from the floor in the first half. Notre Dame battled back, shooting 55 percent from the field in the second stanza, forcing the overtime period. The Irish never relinquished control after that, outscoring the Friars 22-10 in the extra period and cruised to the win.
Notre Dame had five players score in double figures, led by Matt Gotsch's 18 points. Providence was led by God Shammgod's game-high 21 points.
Notre Dame improved to 13-11 overall, 7-9 in Big East play while Providence fell to 19-8, 10-6.
Notre Dame will play its last contest at home this season when it hosts Miami on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m.
