Notre Dame Wins Exhibition Opener
Pat Garrity was fouled on a 3-point attempt with three seconds to play in overtime and made 2-of-3 free throws to lift Notre Dame past Northwest Basketball Camps, 80-78, in the exhibition opener attended by 9,516 at Joyce Center.
Garrity scored six of his game-high 19 points in the overtime period. The score was tied 64-64 after regulation.
Northwest Basketball Camps trailed 78-74 after Keith Friel connected on two free throws for Notre Dame with 55.2 seconds to play in overtime, but NBC tied it on a layup by Dave Wilson and two free throws by Kyle Dixon with 14.5 seconds remaining.
The Fighting Irish trailed by six points (30-24) at halftime, but outscored NBC 25-11 over the first nine minutes of the second half.
Friel scored 13 points off the bench and Pete Miller had 11. They combined to hit on 5-of-9 three-point attempts for Notre Dame. The rest of the team shot 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Garrity, who scored all of his points after intermission, also had a team-high seven rebounds. Notre Dame was outrebounded, 50-40.
