Men's Basketball

Juwan Durham, a 6-11 forward from Tampa, Florida, who competed at the University of Connecticut in 2016-17, has joined the men’s basketball program at the University of Notre Dame. Durham will sit out the 2017-18 season due to National Collegiate Athletic Association transfer rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Fighting Irish starting in the 2018-19 season.

“We are thrilled to have Juwan join our culture,” Irish head coach Mike Brey said.

“He has such tremendous upside and now that he is fully healthy he can put in the work to improve and reach his potential. We have a track record of guys getting better in our program. I am excited to see him develop.”

“I’m happy to be a part of the Notre Dame family,” Durham said about his choice to join the Notre Dame program.

“I felt comfortable with my future teammates and the coaching staff.”

Durham was a consensus Top 75 recruit after an outstanding junior season at Tampa Prep where he averaged 22.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during a state tournament regional semifinal game, then injured his right ACL while in rehabilitation from his original injury. The back-to-back knee injuries cost him his senior year of high school competition.

Durham played 28 games at Connecticut in 2016-17, averaging 8.3 minutes, 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. He played a season-high 25 minutes with three blocks against Chaminade in the Maui Invitational and posted a season-high eight points against USF on February 8, 2017.

The 2017-18 season will give Durham an opportunity to work on his strength and conditioning and establish his role in the Irish offensive system. With the eventual 2018 graduation of national player-of-the-year candidate Bonzie Colson, graduate student Austin Torres and senior forward Martinas Geben, Durham will have plenty of opportunity to contribute when he is eligible to play for the Irish in 2018-19.
