AS A SENIOR: Former Irish player who played in 27 games in 1997-98 and five during the 1998-99 season, returns to the squad...left Notre Dame team following the sixth game in December of 1998 and then transferred at the end of the fall semester to the University of Portland...returned back to Notre Dame at the start of the spring semester in January 2000...never played at Portland...began to work out with team at the end of last season and was invited to rejoin squad as a walk-on...will miss the first six games of the season and will be eligible to play following the conclusion of examinations for the fall semester...provides the Irish with great depth in the post and is a player who will have a variety of roles when he is in the game as both a screener and rebounder...likes to shoot from 12-to-15 foot range facing the basket.
AS A JUNIOR: Did not compete.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Played in the first five games before leaving the team in December of 1998 following the sixth contest of the campaign...played a total of 24 minutes in the five games...came off the bench in the season opener against Miami of Ohio (Nov. 13) and also saw action in the Yale, Vanderbilt, Duke and Alaska-Anchorage contests.
AS A FRESHMAN: Played in all 27 contests and made four starts...earned first career start against St. John's (Jan. 31) and then earned starts in the next three games vs. Rutgers (Feb. 5), Georgetown (Feb. 7) and Boston College (Feb. 11)...had the second most minutes played of any freshman on the team behind Martin Inglesby during the 1997-98 campaign...had a career-high nine rebounds vs. Connecticut (Jan. 3)...also played 20 minutes vs. the Huskies and scored six points...scored a career-high eight points vs. Florida International (Dec. 20) in 11 minutes of playing time and added six points vs. Dartmouth (Dec. 22)...hauled in six rebounds vs. Northeastern (Nov. 25) and five rebounds against Drexel (Dec. 14)...in first collegiate start, had one point and five rebounds in 16 minutes of action...scored two points and grabbed three rebounds vs. Rutgers...had five points and four rebounds against the Hoyas.
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL DATA: Played for head coach Steve Halligan at Central Catholic High School...holds school single-season record for average rebounds with 9.5 per game in senior season...a two-time all-conference pick and two-time team captain...was named high school honorable mention All-America by Street and Smith's before senior season...shot 52 percent from the field in junior and senior years of high school...averaged 15.2 points and two blocks per game as a senior...team was 21-6 in sophomore year, 16-7 in junior year and 19-7 in senior year...team went to state tournament all three seasons as a varsity player...missed much of his senior year of high school after suffering a broken shinbone...was selected to play in the Coca-Cola all-star game at Notre Dame on April 24, 1997, but did not play in the contest because of the injury...was a member of teams that won Oregon AAU state championships for two straight years...father Larry played basketball at Idaho, sister Kari played basketball at California-Irvine and Portland State and sister Lissa won the state high school cross country championship in Idaho...youngest of three children...full name is Hans Gunnar Rasmussen...born 7-21-79 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho...enrolled as a management major in the Mendoza College of Business.
