Recap |  Box Score

Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey

On the loss...
"I'm disappointed for our guys. Syracuse is a very good basketball team that played at a nice tempo. We can't complain because we had our chances, but we couldn't pull out the stops when we needed to. We turned it over way too much."

On Syracuse...
"They can put 80 points on the board pretty easily. Seventy should be enough. I'm disappointed on the offensive end. Our zone got wide and we turned it over at key times. They did a good job extending us. We got it close, but couldn't convert. We also needed more offensive rebounds."

On Chris Thomas...
"They had Chris Thomas pushed out. He has to shoot them. We'll live or die with him taking shots, and tonight we died."

On Notre Dame's BIG EAST play...
"I told our group on the plane in New Jersey that I don't know who we are. I've learned a lot about us in five days. I like where we are. We answered some big punches, but we couldn't handle this last one. We're resilient. We're tougher than we were when we started BIG EAST play. We foul more. I'll take where we're at right now, and we'll get back to practicing."

On Jim Boeheim...
"He's great for the game of basketball. He's helpful with bringing up issues and giving advice to young coaches. We all appreciate him."

On the Syracuse team...
"That group's been together for a long time, and they've won together for a long time. Their demeanor doesn't get rattled. I take my hat off to them."

Senior Forward Dennis Latimore

On Syracuse...
"They are just a better team than us right now. There were some chances were we could have controlled the game, but they just came back. They forced us to turn the ball over a lot. They got on the boards and they just outplayed us."

On playing in the BIG EAST...
"It's pretty physical and you don't know how physical it is until you get out there. I am just trying to get better with every game. Today was a step back for our team, but we look forward to Saturday and getting a win."

Junior Center Torin Francis

On the difference in tonight's game...
"They are a more experienced team. We couldn't hold a lead. We just couldn't come back at the end; there just wasn't enough time. It's a very disappointing loss just because we were so close to winning."

Senior Forward Jordan Cornette

On the Irish lead...
"The game situation when we were up eight, with however many minutes left, it's a situation where you have to blow them out of the water. I think a great team does that. When you're at home and up eight, you should turn that into a fifteen point lead. I think when we get to that level and that mentality we will be a great team."

On what's next...
"Tomorrow is another day. We have got to come back to work and get ready for St. John's. They have are a heck of a ball club."

Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim

On Syracuse's defensive play...
On a night that we really struggled on offense, I thought that our defense was tremendous, especially down the stretch. Craig [Forth] and Terrence [Roberts] did a tremendous job on the defensive end of the court. Craig made some good plays for us, grabbing the ball off the boards. I think this was his best rebounding game of the season. The defense was really the difference tonight.

On playing without Forward Hakim Warrick...
Hakim was struggling tonight. We've needed him to get 20 points for every game that we've won, and he did have two big baskets for us when he came back in. But it's tremendous for our young guys and for the whole team to win this game without him.

On shutting down Notre Dame's offense...
We really identified their shooters. Craig [Forth] did a great job of making it tough for them inside around the basket. Early in the game, we gave them some open looks and they knocked them down. Then we did a good job of finding Chris Thomas, and we made him work really hard.

On the importance of turnovers...
Billy [Edelin] had more steals tonight than he's gotten in two years. The ball was like a magnet, coming to him all night. He was just getting in the right place, getting his hands active. I thought the turnovers were the difference in the game. They had 17 turnovers and we had 10, and we got some baskets when we needed them out of those turnovers.

On the game's deciding factor...
It comes down to making good plays at the end of the game. That's the way this league is. Tonight, we finally made some good offensive plays. It took us a long time, but Josh Pace got in the lane and made a couple big baskets when we needed to.

Junior Guard, Gerry MacNamara

On the end of the game...
"We started playing our basketball. We did a great job in our zone and they only scored a couple points in the last few minutes. They are going to make shots - they are a great shooting team, so for us to fight them in the zone was really important."

Senior Guard, Josh Pace

On the importance of veterans down the stretch...
"We talk about how much we need our sophomore and freshman class, and how important they are going to be to us during the tournament, but we know that it is our veteran guys that are going to be the leaders in situations like that. Fortunately we stepped up today."

Senior Forward, Hakim Warrick

On playing at Notre Dame...
"It's definitely a rivalry. I love playing here - it's a great atmosphere. It's great to come here. The crowd is always going to be in it, and that makes it a great place to play. We are 4-0 here in my career now, so it was good to go out and get one more win here tonight."
